Karmic Radiation (EMFMV 2011 #7)

Cal’s weird season continues. We break down the Cal-WSU game, which may have been a rerun of the Cal-Utah game, except with rain. There’s the odd state of the Pac-12, featuring the resurgence of UCLA and the increasing tension of Arizona State. The big Oregon-Stanford match-up is on the agenda. We pre-hash the always-vexing Oregon State Beavers. And finally, about half an hour in, we talk a lot about Penn State. People who do not want to hear more about that terrible situation are invited to stop listening at that point–there’s no secret word.

Curse of the White Helmets (EMFMV 2011 #6)

We return for a podcast of sadness. Discussing the loss to UCLA. Figuring out where we go from here. What’s up with Tedford not finding star quarterbacks? What happened to Zack Maynard? What’s the best we can hope for? Plus Jason blames everything on those white helmets and Ken reminds us to discuss the upcoming Washington State game.

Nooooooooooooooo! (EMFMV 2011 #5)

We’re finally back! We discuss the last four weeks of Cal football, break down the Utah win, look at the future schedule and predict Cal’s final record, discuss white helmets, AT&T Park, where we might sit next year, and more. Plus there’s a secret word of a sort.

Cloaking Device (EMFMV 2011 #4)

Another week, another podcast with Jason and Ken talking fundamentals of Presbyterianism. Also Cal football! On the agenda beyond Comparative Religion 101: AT&T Park, previewing Washington, a recap of the Pac-12 week, and an overview of the Pac-16 expansion rumors. Plus, no secret word! Sorry. Instead, leave a comment that likens some aspect of Cal Football to Star Trek, as Ken does during this very podcast.

Fundamentals of Presbyterianism (EMFMV 2011 #3)

The podcast is back! In this episode Jason and Ken recap the Colorado win, talk about the College Football Overtime Rule with no concrete stats to back us up, preview the Presbyterian game (Cal’s first at AT&T Park), discuss the roots of Presbyterianism, and review the Pac-12 results of the week. Plus, a two-headed secret word!

Minus Two (EMFMV 2011 #2)

Another week, another Excuse Me For My Voice podcast with Jason and Ken. We recap the Fresno State victory, talk Candlestick Park, preview Colorado, and review the Pac-12 results for the week. Also: Topics that upset people, like beer and religion. And a new, impossible-to-spell secret word!

Warm with high clouds (EMFMV 2011 #1)

We’re back! For another weekly(ish) podcast about Cal football. This week Ken and Jason talk about the off-season, how the team is shaping up, what’s up with Jeff Tedford’s evolution (or de-evolution?) as a head coach, where we’re sitting at AT&T Park, and more. Plus: A walkthrough of Cal’s 2011 schedule, complete with Ken’s detailed predictions for every game. Except Presbyterian.

There is no secret word this week. We forgot that we used to do that. We’ll bring it back next week.

So what have we learned? (EMFMV 2010 #10)

The post-mortem. Stanford and Washington losses recounted. Jim Harbaugh’s future divined. A Pac-10 bowl roundup. (Go Ducks!) A Pac-12 2011 season previewed. All of this and a farewell to our podcasts for this year. Merry Christmas to all, and dream of Rose Bowls.

Dignity and defense (EMFMV 2010 #9)

Cal loses a home game! But: the “Cal is great at home” theory remains intact. What an amazing defensive performance against Oregon. It beat our “best-case scenarios” hands down. Now Jason and Ken muse about what the Oregon game might mean, preview an increasingly winnable-looking Big Game, and talk about how Ken’s scenario for Pac-10 Bowl Ruination might actually come to pass.

Identify the “secret word” (which is actually a word this week), win a no-prize.

Saturday Night Dead (OTRH/EMFMV 2010 #5 combo)

Usually after a game, Ken records his thoughts. Well, Ken was sitting at home, Jason was sitting at his home, neither of us were going to sleep anytime soon, so we let it all out. Here it is. A dramatic post-loss podcast that serves as both an On the Road Home and an EMFMV combo. And to the guy in the liveblog asking why we posted our podcast on Thursday last week: enjoy this early one!

We talk about Cal losing 10-9 to Arizona. We are confused about the Pac-10. We don’t know what to make of UCLA. We don’t think the UCLA-WSU game will tell us anything. We are happy about Cal’s defense but confused about the offense. We are confused in general. Also, we mention still-beating hearts being ripped out of chests, get Tucson confused with San Diego, Jason does live play by play of a game that is now over, and more. If you ever wished you could bottle the feeling of two guys talking about Cal in the immediate aftermath of a loss, WISH NO MORE!

What Happens in Reno, Stays in Reno (EMFMV 2010 #4)

Sorting through the ashes of Nevada and looking forward(?) to Arizona, it’s the latest EMFMV podcast with Jason and Ken! We come to grips with Cal’s loss to Nevada. But there’s hope! We are both optimistic that there’s definitely a chance Cal might win in Arizona. And what’s being a Cal fan about, other than hope in the face of long odds? We also talk the Pac-10, Ken shows his optimism for the rest of Cal’s season, we cheer the soon-arriving Pac-12 conference, and discuss whether or not Jeff Tedford should be fired. (Spoiler alert: Not.) Plus the secret word turns into a math problem. Please listen, won’t you?

Optimistically Pessimistic (EMFMV 2010 #3)

Rehashing Colorado and pre-hashing Nevada, it’s the latest EMFMV podcast with Jason and Ken! We do what we always do: break down the last Cal game unscientifically, discuss other games around the Pac-10 — wow, is UCLA bad or what? — and then preview Cal’s potential “trap game” against Nevada. Plus there’s a secret word and yet more about buses. Join us or die! Okay, that was a little dramatic. Please listen, won’t you?

Now It Gets Tougher? (EMFMV 2010 #2)

Rehashing UC Davis and pre-hashing Colorado, it’s the latest EMFMV podcast with Jason and Ken! Thrill as we talk about the beatdown of the poor, overmatched Aggies. Get excited as we discuss other Pac-10 week one action. Become mildly bored as we discuss the stadium and public-transit issues. Wake up slightly when we preview what little we know about Colorado, this week’s opponent. But please listen, won’t you?

2010 Podcast #1: Hope Springs Eternal

We’re back like a recurring hamstring strain!

In this first podcast for 2010, Jason Snell and Ken Crawford discuss the podcast that we never bothered to post, and preview the entire 2010 football season. Plus, Jason talks about where he’s sitting — that part’s truly riveting, by the way — and we pretty much yammer on for an hour. But hey! You’re not tired of us yet, right? RIGHT???!

We Have the Axe! (EMFMV 2009 #11)

In this podcast: We still can’t believe Cal won the Big Game. We talk offense, defense, special teams, strange play-calling, and the general atmosphere in Stanford Stadium. There’s also a preview of the UW game, we talk bowl positioning, and there’s even a secret word. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Blue and Goldfinger (EMFMV 2009 #10)

In this podcast, we’re re-capping the delightful victory over Arizona. Pre-capping a scary battle with the scariest Stanford team in recent memory. Talking Rose Bowl scenarios for almost everyone except Cal. (Of course.) We wonder why Cal can’t recruit a freakin’ kicker, praise the offensive line, unveil a new Secret Word (this week: it’s a concept!), Jason does yet another round of terrible Bill Walton impressions, and goes off the deep end to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of recent James Bond movies. What does that have to do with Cal football? Oh, right–nothing at all.

After the Fall (EMFMV 2009 #9)

This week we recap the Oregon State game, specifically the scariest moment in recent Cal history. The future of Jahvid Best, the future of the Cal Bears, the difficult path ahead against Arizona and Stanford, and Stanford’s defeat of Oregon. Jason tries to improve on his awful Bill Walton impression. And yeah, there’s a secret word. Try to find it and work it into the comments to win a no-prize.

Donald and Sparky (EMFMV 2009 #8)

Now shorter and (slightly) less rambly!

We recap the ASU game, including Ken’s legendary drive to and from the Valley of the Sun. Pre-hashing the Oregon State game at Berkeley. Glee at USC losing it, while realizing they’ll still probably end up in the BCS. What’s Cal’s record going to be this year? We’re still saying 9-3. Jason does a bad Bill Walton impression (all his impressions are bad, though, so at least he’s consistent), and we talk mascots, say the secret word, and try to perform an intervention on all teams with colors as their nicknames. There’s more listener homework, too, for the one of you who actually does it.

The Lion King (EMFMV 2009 #7)

Our longest and most interminable episode yet! If you can get through this one, you’re made of Sturdy Golden Stuff.

Ken didn’t go to the WSU game. Jason did. This adds up to some pretty random analysis. We pre-hash the ASU game. We talk Pac-10 football, including bowl scenarios both ridiculous and sublime. Jason goes on a lengthy rant (people who actually have lives, fast forward through this part) about feeling kind of oogy about going to games in an era where Cal’s teams are actually successful. And what does The Lion King have to do with it all? If you can figure out what the heck we’re talking about, let us know, because we have no idea. Jason also does a terrible Larry King impression and we provide homework for our listener(s).

And when all is said and done, all those people who asked us to record longer podcasts will declare, “We take it back.”
