Cloaking Device (EMFMV 2011 #4)
(Written by jsnell)
Another week, another podcast with Jason and Ken talking fundamentals of Presbyterianism. Also Cal football! On the agenda beyond Comparative Religion 101: AT&T Park, previewing Washington, a recap of the Pac-12 week, and an overview of the Pac-16 expansion rumors. Plus, no secret word! Sorry. Instead, leave a comment that likens some aspect of Cal Football to Star Trek, as Ken does during this very podcast.

A lot of people seem very surprised by the ASU-Illinois game. As a current Illini, let me say that this team appears far more competent than people give them credit for. Plus, QB Nathan Scheelhaase is a nicely hidden asset. They may actually have a chance to challenge in the Big Ten… the longer they stay cloaked and under the radar, the better.
Anyone else find it hilarious that Ted Miller keeps dropping Cal in his conference bowl predictions with each additional win?

I’d be glad to drop a spot a week for every win in his ranking for the next 6 weeks to end up at the bottom.

The conference musical chairs will be the big story of 2011. I think that the Pac 12 will be the Pac 16 very soon. OK and OK St are locked in. Most people think Texas and Tx Tech will be the last two. I’m not so sure.
San Diego State has a 1st level basketball program with a great on campus arena. Their football program is improving and plays in an NFL stadium. The San Diego TV market is good and there is one more thing. San Diego is actually on the Pacific Ocean.
It could be Texas and San Diego State. I think Texas Tech is problematic for the Pac 12. TV market and academics are not up to Pac 12 standards. USC and UCLA have no desire to play in Lubbock once every four years.
Don’t forget Kansas. Great basketball program and Lawrence is a suburb of Kansas City, another good TV market. So if Texas demands too much, bring in SDSU and Kansas.
Here are the pods in this Pac 16:
WA Cal AZ Colo
WA St Stan AZ St OK
OR USC Utah OK St
OR St UCLA SDSU Kansas
This conference is made from the old Pac 8, old WAC and old Big 8.
Texas can go independent. I’m sure Notre Dame and BYU would schedule them.
