Cal-Arizona Deadblog
(Written by jsnell)
Want to see what we said about the game while it was going on. It’s all there after the jump. But whatever you do, don’t mention the score.
6:35 – Jason: Hi everyone. Jason here in my living room.
6:36 – Jason: Looking forward to watching Cal with one eye while I watch the Giants take on the Rockies with the other eye.
6:36 – crumpackeroncal: Arrived in Tucson for Cal-Ariz game Sat nite. It’s a mild 96 degrees. Hours away from dining with friends at awesome Poca Cosa, to die for. [via Twitter]
6:36 – crumpackeroncal: Jeremy Ross will start 1st play of game for Cal in place of Keenan Allen but Allen will play. So will Mike Mohamed, a boost for Cal defense. [via Twitter]
6:36 – crumpackeroncal: Yep, there’s Mike Mohamed in uniform for warmups 45 min. before kickoff at Arizona Stadium. I’ll be following him closely. Bears need him. [via Twitter]
6:37 – OkanesonCal: Settled in here at Arizona Stadium. Received word that Mike Mohamed is good to go and will start at linebacker. [via Twitter]
6:37 – OkanesonCal: Derrick Hill will start his second straight game at nose tackle. [via Twitter]
6:37 – Jason: And there’s the latest news from the Twitter.
6:40 – Jason: Now here are some Pac-10 updates.
6:40 – Jason: UCLA beat Texas. What.
6:40 – Jason: Is that a zeppelin flying by? Because I sure feel like I’m in a parallel universe.
6:40 – Jason: Stanford destroyed Notre Dame.
6:41 – Jason: USC whacked Wazzou.
6:41 – Jason: And Boise State leads Oregon State 24-10 at the half.
6:46 – crumpackeroncal: Bears are in their 4th uniform combination in 4 games this season, white on blue. They’ve also been blue/ blue, blue/ white and white/white [via Twitter]
6:47 – Jason: Uni watch: My wife’s favorite uniform combination. I prefer blue on yellow.
6:48 – ESPN_Pac10: Halftime: Boise State 24, Oregon State 10 – http://es.pn/c1nFSy [via Twitter]
6:51 – Jason: Ken has joined me now.
6:52 – Ken: Wow, is Texas that bad or is UCLA so much better than anyone thought?
6:52 – Jason: Might be both.
6:53 – Ken: And if it’s UCLA, is Stanford unstoppable?
6:54 – Jason: I called that Stanford-Notre Dame game right, Ken.
6:55 – Ken: Perfect score? Awesome. I expected ND to get a bit more offense going (I predicted a 42-28 Stanford win)
6:55 – Jason: Really? I thought you went with your heart and picked ND.
6:56 – Jason: I picked 45-28. So I guess I can’t taunt you about the Irish after all.
6:56 – Jason: i got USC-WSU almost right, though. Picked 50-16, got 52-13.
6:56 – Ken: 🙂 You can’t go with the heart for the Pick’Em. It’s too competitive for that.
6:56 – Jason: And I picked UCLA-Texas at 35-9, when the final was 34-12. SO CLOSE! And the wrong teams.
6:57 – Ken: HA!
6:57 – Ken: You’re TV is Comcast, right? Are you staring at a blank screen too? (DirecTV for me)
6:58 – [Comment from katster]: I’m angry — I had USC 49, WSU 13 and then tinkered with it this morning.
6:58 – Ken: For those having trouble finding the game with their provider: CSN-CA-Plus is 699 on DirecTV
6:59 – Jason: I’m not really enjoying this Giants game anyway.
6:59 – katster: Ken: Huh, 695 says it’ll carry it too, but neither seems to have started.
7:00 – katster: …ah, there we go,
7:00 – katster: and you’re right on 699.
7:00 – katster: 695 is not purchased. 😉
7:00 – ESPN_Pac10: RT @CardinalReport: Stanford’s @JimHarbaugh talks about the game, also video highlights from the 37-14 win over Irish #gostanford http: … [via Twitter]
7:00 – Ken: Right. 699 comes with most packages for northern Cal people, but 695 isn’t.
7:01 – katster: Ken: and I should have listened to you given that I’m in the next town over. 😉
7:02 – Ken: Palawski has been getting a lot of TV games lately. Of course I love him as a former Cal QB, but I’m not sold as a TV commentator.
7:02 – Jason: This game is quite poorly defined.
7:03 – Ken: Jason, personally white over blue is my favorite away combination.
7:04 – Jason: This liveblog brought to you by my dinner. Homemade pizza and some english porter from Whole Foods.
7:04 – Jason: It’s also brought to you by brutal heat. Brutal heat — filling my house since 11 a.m. Ask for it by name.
7:04 – Ken: And Round Table and Coke.
7:05 – [Comment from katster]: yeah, I like white with blue, too.
7:05 – Ken: It’s most definitely NOT brought to you by the fish in the Sacramento River. We went fishing this morning and my fish finder only found a total of 6 fish in about 10 miles of river. So much for it being the “early peak” of King Salmon season…
7:07 – [Comment from Josh]: Anyone else watching this from outside CA? My DVR says it starts at 430, I’m stuck watching Missouri state and Illinois state (I’m on time Warner cable)
7:08 – Jason: http://veetle.com/index.php/channel/view#4c8274b2a8b72 or http://www.justin.tv/prd74_2#/w/418051072 may help
7:08 – Jason: Arizona playing in the blood clots tonight.
7:09 – Jason: Wow, they couldn’t afford a first down line for this broadcast either.
7:09 – [Comment from katster]: c’mon, Kevin.
7:09 – Ken: Liked the O-Line movement on that play
7:09 – Jason: Is this broadcast from 2001?
7:09 – Jason: Easy, Cal fans. Sorry I mentioned 2001.
7:10 – Jason: Crazy pass, almost a pick-six, but Cal gets the deflection.
7:10 – [Comment from katster]: ooh, dangerous throw.
7:11 – Jason: Riley might have been able to run for it, but he pulled up and threw to Jones, who couldn’t catch it.
7:11 – Jason: Riley missed the throw.
7:12 – ESPN_Pac10: Heat (probably) won’t be an issue – http://es.pn/cdOQXB [via Twitter]
7:12 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: yes, i’m watching in Seattle
7:12 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: how do I flip this so the newest posts are at the bottom?
7:13 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: what a punt
7:13 – Jason: @Leader: Reload. I just flipped it back
7:13 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: Jason and Ken, what did you guys think of the Stanford/UCLA performances today?
7:13 – Jason: I think I don’t understand college football.
7:14 – Jason: Either that, or Stanford is the greatest team in the history of history.
7:14 – Ken: Stanford = expected. UCLA = WOW!
7:14 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: they look pretty good, i don’t think their running backs are good
7:14 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: Is Keenan hurt?
7:14 – Jason: My understanding is that Allen had a disciplinary problem and was not going to start, but would play.
7:14 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: Awesome performance out of ucla, ayers has a nose for the ball
7:15 – Jason: Cal wins the uniform battle tonight.
7:15 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: What day do you guys usually post the podcasts?
7:15 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: I don’t think i got the nevada one until yesterday
7:15 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: thx jason
7:15 – Jason: @Leader: Usually the day we recorded it. We had two false starts on the podcast this week until we recorded it Thursday. I posted it right after we recorded it
7:16 – Jason: We try for earlier in the week, but sometimes it fails. In this case, some guy was cutting down a tree in my backyard when we were supposed to record. It would’ve been.. unpleasant.
7:16 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: You also received a 15 yard delay of podcast penalty
7:16 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: not looking good
7:16 – Jason: We were pushed way back. The podcast had to punt from its own goal line.
7:16 – Ken: I like what I’m seeing here. The line of scrimmage battle is going Cal’s way so far.
7:17 – Jason: That Jeremy Ross, knows the coverage will be confused if he drops the ball and then picks it up.
7:17 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: D is looking good tonite
7:17 – Ken: Hold.
7:17 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: dang, shane was bout to bust one
7:17 – Jason: Vereen tripped on the yard line. Where have I seen that before?
7:18 – Jason: Oh, there was a guy there. Anyway, penalty, 1st and 20.
7:18 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i think our defense is good enough to keep us in every game and the nevada loss could be a blessing in disguise with ucla looking better
7:18 – Ken: Keep those hands on the inside Bears.
7:19 – Jason: Riley to Ross for 10, now it’s 3rd and 10.
7:19 – Jason: Boy, doesn’t this remind you how much the on-field graphics innovations have changed how we watch football on TV?
7:19 – [Comment from katster]: good throw
7:19 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: loving the WR-core
7:19 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Hi from NY, guys. Can’t watch it here, so just gamecasting and hangin’ on every post.
7:20 – Jason: Riley dances around but can’t find anyone open, brought down, punt time.
7:20 – Jason: Good (late) evening OskiWowWow!
7:20 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: Riley is the downfall of this team
7:20 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: He held on to it!
7:20 – Jason: Do all fatalistic fans have to agree before you post a comment?
7:21 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Yeah. The 7:00 pm starts are kinda killer. Especially the subway ride home at 1:30 when I’m out. . .
7:21 – Jason: Ouch
7:21 – Ken: The Sunday Chronicle: it has things you can’t get anywhere else…
7:22 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: No, that would be way too many fans
7:22 – Ken: Because they hold it out of the online edition for 2 days, ugh.
7:22 – Jason: I get it in my Kindle edition.
7:22 – Jason: But I pay for that.
7:23 – Ken: Neither DB did a good job of getting off their blocks on that one.
7:23 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: that new kindle is pretty sweet
7:23 – Jason: I’ve got the K2, but yeah, the K3 is a good deal.
7:23 – Jason: Oh, 15 yard penalty on the cameraman, who missed that big pass by Nick Foles.
7:24 – Jason: VIDEO OR THAT CATCH DIDN’T HAPPEN.
7:24 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: Here comes the bad part of the night right here
7:24 – Jason: Another 1st down for Arizona
7:25 – Ken: Hold
7:26 – Jason: Flag down, Foales runs around, then lays down.
7:26 – Jason: As if to say, “Forget this play ever happened.”
7:26 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: holding?
7:26 – Jason: Just a tad.
7:26 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: defense needs to step up
7:27 – Jason: Foales completes the ball back to the original line, so it’s 3rd and 9.
7:27 – Ken: Foles had two choice: Get his clocked cleaned and lose 10 yards or not get his clock cleaned and lose 10 yards. He chose the latter.
7:27 – Jason: SQUAD HIT
7:27 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: a sack would have been nice there
7:27 – Jason: Foales, lots of time. Then pressure, throws it with his off hand, almost completed the pass. Cameron Jordan doing some great work after losing his hat.
7:28 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: lost his helmet and still went in there
7:28 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: Yes, nice pressure on that QB
7:28 – [Comment from katster]: third and 23, ouch.
7:28 – Jason: Foales chucks the ball as he’s headed down onto the ground.
7:29 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa
7:29 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: Cam Jordan beasting
7:29 – Jason: Punty punty for Arizony
7:29 – [Comment from katster]: that wasn’t a real pass. 😛
7:29 – Ken: This is the kind of defensiv performance we need tonight.
7:29 – Jason: Punt went through the end zone and into the stands, basically. Cal ball at the 20.
7:29 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: we dodged one there
7:31 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: He kicked it back to CA
7:32 – Jason: Riley to Jones for 7.
7:32 – Jason: Ross with the end-around, made a nice cut as a reaction to a defender who got penetration.
7:32 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: commentators gave me a shoutout
7:33 – Ken: Is this a new Pac-10 rule? When in doubt, it’s a first down?
7:33 – Jason: Tie goes to the offense.
7:33 – ESPN_Pac10: Oregon State still hanging with Boise – http://es.pn/d4qgvj [via Twitter]
7:34 – OkanesonCal: RB Shane Vereen has gone oer 2,000 rushing yards for his career. [via Twitter]
7:34 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i can’t stand when the announcers talk about 4.3 speed, the worst is when they claim terrell pryor has it
7:34 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: how are we getting these ted miller twitter posts?
7:34 – Jason: I’m feeding in some twitter feeds.
7:34 – Jason: For fun. Is it fun?
7:34 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: and okanes
7:34 – Jason: And Crumpacker too, if he’ll ever Tweet
7:34 – Jason: Big reception by Ross at the 50!
7:34 – Jason: Now are they waving it off?
7:34 – Jason: Geez.
7:35 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i like it
7:35 – Ken: WHAT!
7:35 – [Comment from katster]: augh.
7:35 – Jason: Review, please.
7:35 – OkanesonCal: WR Keenan Allen not seeing much action so far; second week in a row. [via Twitter]
7:35 – Ken: CHALLENGE!
7:35 – Jason: Nope, Punt.
7:35 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: can you guys keep up the play by play, my feed is terrible
7:35 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i’m heading to a bar soon
7:35 – Jason: Sure, punt into the end zone, so 1st and 10 for AZ at the 20.
7:36 – Jason: Ross reception did hit the ground.
7:36 – Jason: Good call, sadly.
7:36 – Ken: How can that not be reviewed? OK, the final review shows it on the ground, but still, that deserved a review.
7:36 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: why was it called back?
7:36 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Is Mohamed out again? Can’t find the info anywhere.
7:36 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: damn it
7:37 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: Every time we make a comment about something good it’s reversed in the next moment. Quintessential Cal experience.
7:37 – Ken: 2nd and 3 from the 27 for AZ: 6 yards to the 33 with penalty
7:37 – Ken: Holding offense
7:37 – Jason: Holding on AZ negates a first down.
7:37 – [Comment from katster]: Oski: He’s in, but not playing every down, IIRC.
7:37 – Jason: Yeah, looks like he’s being used sparingly?
7:38 – Jason: Nice reception there to Antolin, 1st down AZ
7:38 – [Comment from katster]: gah.
7:38 – Ken: It sure looked like he stepped out earlier.
7:39 – Ken: Announcer: no flags! Screen header: “Flag”
7:39 – [Comment from katster]: hey, MikeyMo was in that play.
7:40 – Ken: FUMBLE and Cal ball!
7:40 – Jason: Fumble Foales! Cal has the ball.
7:40 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: i saw that
7:40 – [Comment from katster]: FUMBLE!
7:40 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
7:40 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: CAM JORDAN IS A BEAST
7:40 – Ken: Cameron Jordon stripped it. Kendricks recovers
7:40 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Is this the peewee camera crew again?
7:40 – Jason: OWW: Yes.
7:40 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: YAYYYYYY
7:40 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Fumble?!
7:40 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: Jordan is having a huge game
7:40 – Jason: End of Q1.
7:40 – Jason: 31-17 Boise over the Beavs after 3, by the way.
7:41 – Ken: OWW: No, they were busy.. This is the PeeWee backup crew.
7:41 – OkanesonCal: Arizona WR Juron Criner in the game; was questionable with turf toe. [via Twitter]
7:42 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: both the commentators + cameramen suck
7:42 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: Jason what did you predict the score to be on that one?
7:42 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: okanes updates are quite slow
7:42 – OkanesonCal: DE Cameron Jordan sack and forced fumble of Arizona QB Nick Foles. LB Mychal Kendricks recovered fumble. [via Twitter]
7:42 – Jason: Oh dear, are my pick ’em picks a matter of public record?
7:42 – Jason: I picked OSU, 42-38.
7:43 – Jason: What the heck.
7:43 – Ken: After the games start they are.
7:43 – Jason: Okay, Vereen with a rush to lead us off.
7:43 – Jason: I also picked Cal to lose, 28-24, by the way. I am a traitor, or an Old Blue, or both.
7:43 – Jason: But I am rooting to be wrong!
7:43 – Ken: Both.
7:43 – Jason: Riley throws it deep to a space where there was nobody. Except 3 confused defenders.
7:43 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: shane needs his 40 carries
7:44 – Jason: Roughing the Passer flag.
7:44 – Jason: Very late. Or not noticed by bad TV crew.
7:44 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: ASU missed field goal to take an early lead against oregno
7:44 – Jason: I like oregno on my spaghetti
7:44 – Ken: One of my favorite TV sounds, the group insulted “Ooooh!”
7:44 – Jason: Vereen passes to Riley! In the End Zone! but no.
7:44 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: NICE!!!!
7:44 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: brooks reed looks like a blond undertaker
7:45 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: WTF was that
7:45 – [Comment from DJ4uofa]: Do you Cal guys get this game in HD?
7:45 – Ken: we know why Riley is not a WR now
7:45 – Jason: Nope, this is definitely not in HD.
7:45 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: riley is not pryor
7:45 – Jason: Okay, 3rd and 6.
7:46 – Jason: Riley to Lageman, in the end zone, caught but out of bounds.
7:46 – Jason: Riley no pressure, no field sense by Lageman who was basically out when he caught it.
7:46 – Ken: That’s on Riley. Throw the ball in bounds!
7:46 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: HD coverage starts later on another channel
7:46 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: you guys watching the oregon game too?
7:46 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: keenan in
7:46 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: link to the oregon stream
7:46 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: http://www.justin.tv/sportscasthq73
7:46 – [Comment from DJ4uofa]: No HD for us in Tucson either. It’s killing me
7:46 – [Comment from katster]: TAVECCHIO!
7:46 – Jason: FG Tavecchio, 3-0 Cal.
7:47 – Ken: This feels like the 2008 and 2009 games. Cal kicking field goals when it needs to be scoring TDs.
7:47 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i thought it was a good throw
7:47 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: giorgio for MVP
7:47 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: 7-0 would have been better
7:48 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: are either of you guys at the game?
7:48 – Jason: No, we are on our respective couches.
7:48 – Ken: Nope. I hung up my reporter notepad and won’t be traveling for a while
7:49 – Jason: And I am but a civilian.
7:49 – Ken: 9 yards deep!
7:49 – Jason: Larry Scott, is that you?
7:49 – [Comment from katster]: ….whu, Tavecchio again, through the end zone!
7:49 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: This is my view on
7:49 – Jason: wow, nice
7:50 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: I call it an ocean view, it’s just beautiful
7:50 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: Leader – how do you get that setup and are you using FIOS?
7:50 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: LotP: That’s a nice look, there.
7:50 – OkanesonCal: Cal leads 3-0 on Giorgio Tavecchio’s 25-yard field goal. It’s the first time this season Arizona has trailed in a game. [via Twitter]
7:52 – Ken: That was price on the tackle
7:52 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: I just stream four games from justin.tv
7:52 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: I hook up a monitor to my new laptop
7:52 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: he guy sportscasthq has awesome streams, all HD
7:52 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: oregon losing 7-0
7:52 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: ASU with a beautiful run, broke about 3 tackles
7:52 – Jason: 2nd and 10 at the 40
7:53 – Jason: incomplete pass there, dropped by the WR
7:53 – Ken: Phew! We got lucky on that one.
7:53 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: these commentators are horrible and CSN is getting their downs and everything mixed up
7:53 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: Defense is looking respectable
7:53 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: should be 10-0, but ASU missed the FG
7:53 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: cambell looks big, i thought he was like 5’1-”
7:54 – Jason: Punt, Cal gets it at the 34
7:55 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: Great game by the Bears so far
7:55 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: Why are the cameras all at field level
7:55 – crumpackeroncal: Cal playing well on def. vs. Ariz, mostly in nickel with Mohamed not in. K. Allen playing sparingly. Cam Jordan eating up Ariz. RT vs. pass. [via Twitter]
7:56 – Ken: Cal is not winning on the O-line on run plays
7:58 – Jason: personal foul on the defense.
7:58 – Jason: Cal gets 15 yards
7:58 – Ken: Cal is being saved by defensive penalties.
7:58 – Jason: Riley, another pass nowhere near anyone.
7:58 – Ken: The temp in Tucson just went up a degree with the heat radiating from Stoops red-head.
7:59 – [Comment from katster]: Riley is having a tough game, though. 😛
7:59 – Ken: I like plays like that when Riley is struggling. Give him some easy plays to get back in rhythm
7:59 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: riley riley riley
7:59 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: It’s always good when the Gamecast says “Riley incomplete to N/A” . . .
7:59 – Jason: 3rd and 6
8:00 – Jason: Riley to Calvin, 1st down
8:00 – Ken: Why does it take Riley so long to identify the route. It’s like he just saw it at the last second when it was right in front of him.
8:01 – Jason: Here’s my viewing setup tonight. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/534542/cal-viewing.jpg
8:01 – Jason: 2nd and 10
8:01 – Ken: What the Arizona fans don’t know is that’s pretty accurate for Riley 🙂
8:01 – Jason: Vereen for a bunch, inside the 35
8:02 – Jason: Watching the Giants on the iMac, Cal on the HDTV, liveblogging on the MacBook Air
8:02 – Jason: Which is melting in the heat
8:02 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: Yay Shane
8:02 – Jason: 1st down run by Vereen for a loss
8:03 – Jason: Another Vereen loss
8:03 – Ken: Still not winning on the O-Line in run plays
8:03 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: poor playcalling there, i thought we should have thrown on that down
8:03 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: not putting riley in good situations with third and long
8:04 – Ken: Did they say who called timeout? I’m assuming Cal, yes?
8:04 – Jason: Cal
8:04 – OkanesonCal: Changes to OL: Richard Fisher for Justin Cheadle at RG; Matt Summers-Gavin for Donovan Edwards at RT. [via Twitter]
8:06 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: sweet setup jason, you should get that oregon game going too
8:06 – Jason: Timeout AZ before the play
8:06 – Jason: Which is good because Cal held onthe play
8:07 – Jason: Leader, I’ll switch over when the Giants game is over
8:07 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: wow late whistles
8:07 – Jason: 3rd and 14
8:08 – Ken: Why didn’t Schwartz just throw his own flag with how obvious that hold was?
8:08 – ESPN_Pac10: RT @Dr
8:08 – Jason: Riley changes the play to a handoff, which didn’t work.
8:08 – Jason: FG attempt now.
8:08 – [Comment from katster]: Jason: how is the Giants game going?
8:08 – Jason: 9-7 Giants in the 8th. A true Coors Field slugfest.
8:08 – Jason: FG good! 6-0 Cal.
8:08 – [Comment from katster]: TAVECCHIO!
8:09 – Ken: OK, these announcers are idiots. I just watched last years game. Cal was up 6-0 on two field goals and it was a defensive struggle.
8:09 – Jason: 14-7 Oregon now.
8:09 – Jason: 34-24 Boise St. late in the 4th
8:10 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: do you guys like petros announcing games?
8:10 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i think petros is hilarious, i just started downloading his podcast
8:10 – [Comment from Dave32C]: What’s the line on how many FGs Tavecchio gets?
8:10 – Ken: Yeah, Petros is good.
8:10 – OkanesonCal: K Giorgio Tavecchio’s 40-yard field goal is his longest of the season. Also his first game this season with more than one in a game. [via Twitter]
8:10 – Jason: GREAT play. Nnabufi!
8:10 – Ken: Excellent read by Nnabufi!
8:11 – Jason: Blind pitch to the WR on the back side and he was there matched up alone, and brought him down.
8:11 – Jason: Spectacular one-man play.
8:11 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: WHOA
8:11 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: BOOFIE!
8:11 – Jason: Two n’s.
8:11 – Jason: Pass underneath, to the 25, so it’s 3rd and… something.
8:11 – Jason: 7.
8:11 – Jason: Thanks, telecast.
8:12 – Jason: Two missed tackles that would have stopped them.
8:12 – Jason: First down.
8:12 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: breakdown on defense there
8:12 – Ken: GAH! Tackling, it’s so key.
8:12 – Jason: Nnabufi missed the tackle.
8:12 – Jason: The N giveth, the N taketh away.
8:12 – Jason: One N is nice, one in N is… not.
8:12 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: terrible
8:12 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: OOOOOO painful
8:12 – Jason: Fumble there, but the whistle blew.
8:13 – Jason: Reviewing the play
8:13 – Ken: That was close, his knee could have been just off the ground.
8:13 – [Comment from Josh]: Review. Maybe he got possession before the whistle
8:13 – Jason: The Giants game, meanwhile, has slowed to an absolute stop.
8:13 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: that’s baseball for you
8:14 – Jason: Well, especially when the relief pitchers are in the game and it’s in Denver
8:14 – Jason: I thought general relativity taught us that time moves faster for those at higher altitude?
8:14 – Jason: Apparently not at Coors Field.
8:14 – Ken: Fair enough call.
8:14 – [Comment from Josh]: Terrible camera work
8:15 – Jason: Dave Clark asks, “What’s the line on how many FGs Tavecchio will get?”
8:15 – Jason: I put the over/under at 5.
8:15 – Jason: 3rd and 1, run into the line by Grigsby, close one.
8:15 – Jason: I guess when in doubt, it’s a first, right, Ken?
8:15 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: conte looks banged up
8:16 – Jason: The spot puts it at 4th
8:16 – Jason: Fans are booing
8:16 – Jason: Stoops beside himself
8:16 – Jason: They’re going for it at the AZ 45
8:16 – Jason: Stoops ranting
8:16 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: hahaha
8:16 – Jason: Stoops still ranting
8:17 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: that would have been the stupidest call in stoops career
8:17 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: can they call technicals in college football?
8:17 – Jason: He should get a folding chair and toss it
8:17 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: gotta love the histrionics of stoops
8:17 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: they need to flag this guy
8:17 – Ken: It’s a good thing there can’t be 3 teams in one game, because if you get Stoops, Neheisal and Harbaugh in a game and you may get nuclear runaway.
8:17 – [Comment from katster]: yeah, if this was baseball, he’d be gone by now.
8:18 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: anybody remember the excessive arrogance call at stanford?
8:18 – [Comment from Josh]: Looked like a good spot where his knee went down
8:18 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: Do you think Stoops is a happy drunk on an angry drunk?
8:18 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: that was my buddy who hacked the stanford PA system
8:18 – Jason: That was a classic.
8:18 – Jason: With the edited versions of the Stanford PA announcer?
8:19 – Jason: First down AZ.
8:19 – Jason: Bruce Bochy just made a double switch, thereby making the bottom of the 8th inning continue for another half hour.
8:19 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: they thought it was gonna be a QB sneak
8:19 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: o god, browner
8:19 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i don’t know if he edited him and played it or just said it himself, i’ll ask next time i see him
8:20 – Jason: If it’s the one that I remember, it ended with the announcer saying, “Stanford sucks,” and it was def. based on the audio from the actual PA announcer, edited to say something else.
8:20 – Jason: But maybe they’ve hacked the PA more than once!
8:20 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i thought that was a really good push there on 4th down
8:20 – Ken: Yup LP. They played it right. Hard to stop all options on 4th and short
8:20 – Jason: Boise beats OSU 37-24.
8:21 – Jason: Big completion, 1st down inside the 30
8:21 – [Comment from katster]: btw, how the eff did UCLA beat Texas?
8:21 – Jason: Katster, our best scientists say they will have that answer once the Large Hadron Collider goes to full power in 2011.
8:21 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: Texas offense is completely inept, they looked worse than UCLA, and the Bruins did a gret job running the ball
8:21 – Jason: The Bruins did run the ball amazingly well. They had basically no passing yards.
8:22 – Jason: It was a “cloud of dust” kind of performance.
8:22 – Jason: Pass in end zone, flag down, great coverage, what the heck is going on.
8:22 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: I’m calling it now, akeem ayers is the conference MVP if he stays healthy
8:22 – [Comment from Josh]: Yeah, I skipped the ucla game cause I thought it would be terrible. When I saw the score, I thought it was a a misprint
8:22 – Jason: Refs confused.
8:22 – Jason: PI on Cal. Insanity.
8:22 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: defensive mvp
8:22 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: “this is a horrible call by this staff”
8:23 – Jason: 9-9 now in Denver, as the Giants bullpen continues to bleed.
8:23 – Jason: Intercepted in end zone by Cal! Conte off the tip.
8:23 – [Comment from katster]: CONTE!
8:23 – Jason: Big play after the PI call.
8:23 – Jason: One defender tipped it, one caught it.
8:23 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: THANK GOD
8:23 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: CONTE!!!!!
8:23 – [Comment from Josh]: Nice!
8:24 – Ken: That’s karmic payback both for the ref’s bad call and for Stoops ranting and raving.
8:24 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: I’ll let him borrow my basketball nickname, White Mamba!
8:24 – Jason: They’re reviewing the interception.
8:24 – [Comment from 3 fatalistic fans]: Oh no we are regaining hope and that is always dangerous
8:24 – Ken: OK, that’s not how you spell Kharmic (?), but you’ll have to excuse me (HA!), I’m Catholic
8:25 – Jason: Cal takes a knee. Halftime!
8:25 – Ken: OK AZ fans, after you finish booing go finish getting into your drunken stupor.
8:26 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: haha, just got the HA part of it ken
8:26 – crumpackeroncal: Surprising 1st half ends with Cal holding 6-0 lead on strength of strong defensive effort. Bears mostly in nickel pass D. Conte INT in EZ. [via Twitter]
8:26 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i think our team is fired up rightn ow
8:26 – Ken: Uh, “establish the run game”, what game was he watching?
8:26 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: this is hilarious, i love seeing tedford deal with people he wants nothing to do with
8:27 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: defense and special teams
8:27 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: much improved from 09
8:27 – Ken: Totally, LP. He takes off that headset like it’s a spider he was forced to wear on his head for a dare.
8:27 – Ken: (the TV headset)
8:28 – Ken: So, no 1st down line. No sideline announcer. No adults behind the cameras. What else?
8:29 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i actually prefer no sideline reporter, much easier to hear the questions – so it seems
8:29 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i can do without shelly smith bothering my coach
8:30 – RealMikeSilver: Let’s do this bears [via Twitter]
8:30 – [Comment from Josh]: Yeah, the fewer announcers the better
8:30 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: ucla won with only 291 yards of offense
8:31 – Ken: Looks like they retired the old field turf in Wazzoo. It had seen too much.
8:32 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: http://twitter.com/LeaderofthePac how did you miss out on this twitter feed?
8:32 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: you guys have a feed ken?
8:32 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: 11 passing yards from UCLA, too. Against a run D that was supposed to be airtight.
8:32 – [Comment from Josh]: Yeah, but that was almost all on the ground grinding out the time
8:32 – [Comment from katster]: wow.
8:32 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: ASU is looking impressive
8:32 – Ken: No blog Twitter feed. I still haven’t bought into Twitter.
8:32 – Jason: We do not have a feed for EMFMV yet.
8:34 – Jason: Okay, now we do. It’s @emfmv
8:34 – Jason: Ken will need to verify it because I registered with his e-mail address 🙂
8:35 – [Comment from Dave Clark]: Are you the same Jason Snell who edits Mac World?
8:35 – Jason: Dave: That’s me.
8:35 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i don’t like it, but I use it. A utah fan linked me the other day and I got like 350 hits off of it
8:35 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: this oregon defense looks bad
8:36 – Jason: The Arizona cheerleaders keep getting younger.
8:38 – [Comment from Josh]: ASU ties it. This is going to be an interesting last year for the PAC-10
8:39 – ESPN_Pac10: ASU can play with Oregon – http://es.pn/a9bDeA [via Twitter]
8:40 – Jason: Giants trying to lose it before halftime is over.
8:41 – [Comment from katster]: Speaking of outside Cal football activities, congrats, Jason, on joining the Insanity that is NaNo MLing. 😉
8:41 – Jason: Yes, I will be apparently pep-talking dozens of novel writers in Marin County this year.
8:41 – Jason: So thanks!
8:41 – Jason: It also means I have to write one this year too. Sigh. I was thinking I might skip it, but it’s mandatory. 🙂
8:42 – Jason: I really never need to see that commercial where the drunk girl knocks out her teeth again.
8:44 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Ah, you’ll be doing a pep-talk? I’ve signed up to give it a shot this year. The writing, not the pepping.
8:45 – Jason: I have to do pep talks for the people in the Marin region. I’m the Marin ML this year. So those outside Marin will not have to be subjected to my pep talk.
8:45 – Jason: It’s a lot of fun, though. This will be my fifth year.
8:45 – [Comment from Josh]: ASU threatening to take the lead at Oregon 25 with 5 min to go in the half
8:45 – Jason: Of course, I am still trying to rewrite the one I wrote in 2006-7, so I may not be the best example. But I’ve done it every year.
8:46 – Jason: Giants escaped in the 9th, by the way, for those who care.
8:46 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Yeah, I’m looking forward to the attempt.
8:47 – Jason: Kickoff.
8:47 – Jason: 1st down AZ at the 34.
8:48 – Jason: Earlier today I heard Brent Musberger say, and I quote, “So the risk of winning the coin toss and taking the ball doesn’t pay off there.”
8:48 – Jason: When did winning the toss and taking the ball become a “risk”?
8:48 – Jason: What are you risking?
8:48 – Jason: Sigh.
8:49 – Jason: Terrible pass out there to the far side of the field by Foles
8:49 – Jason: 2nd and 10
8:49 – Jason: End around into Cal territory
8:49 – Ken: I suspect AZ is going to be doing a lot more outside running in the 2nd half.
8:50 – Jason: By the way, just to be persnickety, it’s not a reverse if it only ever goes in one direction.
8:50 – Jason: It’s just an End Around.
8:51 – Jason: Foles under heavy pressure there
8:51 – Jason: Tosses it incomplete
8:51 – Ken: Price NEEDS to get that sack.
8:51 – Jason: Yup, Price got there and then just whiffed on him
8:51 – Jason: Still, loving the defensive pressure
8:51 – Jason: After last week
8:52 – Jason: Punt time
8:52 – Jason: Ross fair catches at the 4?
8:52 – Jason: Ugh
8:52 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: Oregon’s secondary is getting torched
8:52 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: how does price miss that sack?
8:52 – Ken: He’s just setting up Vereen to duplicate that Best run on the road against UCLA last year.
8:53 – crumpackeroncal: Bad decision by Jeremy Ross to fair-catch a punt at Cal’s own 4-yard line. Let the damn thing bounce into the end zone. Yeesh. [via Twitter]
8:54 – Jason: Here come the Bears.
8:54 – Jason: Vereen for a couple.
8:54 – Jason: Hey, remember Jahvid Best? Good times.
8:55 – Ken: Cal’s playcalling is SO predictable in when backed up against their endzone
8:55Saturday September 25, 2010 8:55
8:55 – Jason: (Not actually Jahvid Best)
8:55 – Jason: Vereen to the 11, 3rd down
8:55 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: haha, where did that picture come from?
8:55 – Ken: What a shock, two runs up the middle!
8:55 – Jason: I took it a couple years ago
8:55 – Jason: A guy buying a ticket at will call at Memorial Stadium
8:56 – Jason: Riley could’ve run for the first down, but he throws it and it’s incomplete.
8:56 – Ken: RUN!
8:56 – Jason: Bad decision there, really bad.
8:56 – Jason: He could’ve run for 7 yards there.
8:56 – Jason: Really, really bad move.
8:56 – Jason: Punting from the End Zone. Hit. 1st down at the Cal 29 for Arizona.
8:56 – Ken: Looks even worse when seen from behind the play.
8:57 – Jason: Basically, this one’s on Riley.
8:57 – [Comment from Josh]: Ouch, bad time for anger to have a bad kick
8:57 – Jason: Looks like it was touched
8:57 – Jason: Remember when RIley bolted and ran when he should’ve thrown? Good times.
8:57 – Jason: Announcers pointing out Ross shouldn’t have fair-caught it, which is also true.
8:57 – Ken: You mean before Tedford sunk his claws into him?
8:58 – Jason: Ross and riley, sit in a corner.
8:58 – Jason: Game over, Giants lose 10-9.
8:58 – [Comment from Josh]: Riley, runs when he should throw and throws when he should run 🙂
8:58 – Ken: Great time for a sack Jordon. FYI
8:59 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: Giants game over, Cal game should start getting covered on Comcast HD
8:59 – Jason: I don’t think it’s gonna be in HD.
8:59 – Jason: Bad pass by Foles, 4th and 10!
9:00 – Jason: Wildcat FG good. 6-3 Cal.
9:00 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: my feed is refreshing, is it punt or FG?
9:00 – Jason: FG
9:00 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Phew!
9:01 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: defense is playing awesome
9:01 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: we need a long clock killing drive so they don’t get worn down up front
9:01 – Ken: So a bad decision by Ross, predictable play calling by the Bears and Riley not running, plus a tipped/bad Anger punt all come together to half the Cal lead.
9:02 – Ken: We need more than that LP. We. Need. Points.
9:02 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: ASU has 342 yards before half
9:03 – Jason: Ross returns this one a lot further. Past the 20 even.
9:03 – crumpackeroncal: Awful punt by B. Anger, 19 yards, leads to Arizona’s 1st score, a field goal. [via Twitter]
9:03 – Jason: Riley to Ladner, to the 29.
9:04 – Ken: I hate it when a hit to the leg makes me “woozy”
9:04 – Jason: Vereen nice gainer to the 44, first down.
9:04 – [Comment from Josh]: Good job by Ladner to hang on to that
9:04 – Ken: OK, let’s get this running game going. Come on Vereen!
9:05 – Jason: Sofele with the carry! To the 47.
9:06 – Jason: Riley just threw a terrible screen pass attempt. It shouldn’t be this hard, Kevin.
9:06 – Jason: 3rd down.
9:06 – Jason: Riley chooses to run this time, but flag undoubtedly for holding.
9:07 – Jason: 3rd and 17
9:07 – Ken: Summers-Gavin is hurting worse than anyone is letting on with how much Edward is playing.
9:07 – Jason: Oh, nice, false start. 3rd and 22.
9:07 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: Outside the frame? Everything is outside the frame
9:07Saturday September 25, 2010 9:07
9:07 – Jason: That was fun.
9:07 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: they were coming with the safety blitz there
9:07 – [Comment from katster]: …ouch. C’mon Bears.
9:08 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i wish we had a qb who could exploit that
9:08 – Jason: handoff to Vereen. The “give-up” play.
9:09 – Jason: Anger punt goes to the 15.
9:09 – Jason: Nice.
9:09 – Ken: Here’s what i don’t get, you go with the running play on an obvious passing play. How is it possible to get caught in the backfield on that?
9:09 – Ken: I get why it doesn’t succeed, believe me I get that. But I don’t see how it goes for -2
9:10 – Jason: TD oregon.
9:10 – Jason: 28-24 Ducks.
9:11 – Ken: And that’s before halftime.
9:11 – Jason: Okay, here’s Foles and the AZ offense.
9:12 – Ken: My old blue doom meter is pegged right now.
9:12 – Jason: Handoff wide right, Grigsby, out to the 32.
9:12 – Jason: Huge gain to the outside.
9:12 – Jason: Conte tried to pull the flag off his belt on that one.
9:12 – Jason: Forgot this is tackle football.
9:12 – Jason: Holding on AZ, 1st and 20 now.
9:12 – Jason: How Cal-like of them.
9:13 – Jason: Deep pass, Hagan defending, no flag, which is nice
9:13 – Ken: Statistic update: Stoops has officially crossed the 1000 headset removal mark for the game.
9:13 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: criner is getting no separation
9:14 – Jason: Screen pass not for much
9:14 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i thought the PI was an offensive PI last time
9:14 – Jason: I agree, Cal defender had position and everything.
9:14 – Ken: Finally the grounding call!
9:15 – Jason: More pressure on Foles, and grounding at last.
9:15 – Jason: What, was there no receiver in the area of the sky when he chucked that one?
9:15 – Jason: Sorry, the area of the ground.
9:15 – Jason: He threw that one to a gopher.
9:15 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: there we go
9:15 – Jason: 4th and 23, here’s the punt. Ross from the 30.
9:16 – Jason: Takes it back to the 45.
9:16 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: we might have the best defensive line in the conference
9:16 – Jason: I think this game is proving that perhaps Cal’s defense is more like it was the first two weeks than it was against Nevada
9:16 – Ken: POINTS.
9:16 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: how does ross not beat that one wimpy tackler
9:16 – [Comment from katster]: alright, c’mon offense.
9:16 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: could have changed field position
9:16 – Ken: WENEEDPOINTS!
9:16 – Jason: I’d like some good runs.
9:16 – Jason: reverse!
9:16 – Jason: Allen.
9:17 – Jason: Another try for a pass by Allen, unless it was a fake try, and then he runs back and gains 6.
9:17 – Jason: I’m not sure if Allen is really meant to throw there or not, but full credit for him to not throw it if it’s not there
9:17 – [Comment from Josh]: Yes, points
9:17 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: hey ken, what happens in reno stays in reno
9:17 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: cal doesn’t want their dirty laundry being aired every week
9:17 – [Comment from Matt]: TD
9:17 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: man he has great instincts
9:17 – [Comment from Josh]: Nice play by allen
9:17 – Jason: Vereen gets the ball for a first down
9:17 – Jason: Cal offense doing what it’s best at, which is having Riley not throw
9:18 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: just feed hungry shane
9:18 – Jason: Riley to Jones, complete. And now a flag?
9:18Saturday September 25, 2010 9:18
9:18 – Jason: Personal foul on AZ.
9:18 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: turn shane into the beast
9:19 – Ken: Did you see that great camera work? I nearly got wiplash in my living room
9:19 – Jason: Stoops yelling at his player now.
9:19 – Jason: Yeah, they deked the cameraman again
9:19 – [Comment from Josh]: We’ll take the yards, no matter how they come
9:19 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: LOL
9:19 – Jason: Roll on you Bears
9:19 – Jason: Stoops yelling at the ref now, for a change of pace
9:19 – Ken: Aflack trivia question: how many timeouts does anyone have right now?
9:20 – crumpackeroncal: Cam Jordan’s excellent play at DE for Cal continues. He harrasses Nick Foles into intentional grounding on 3rd down. [via Twitter]
9:20 – [Comment from Matt]: Man, Is it just me or is Riley quite often just abysmal? Last week, he was overthrowing open men, and while I cant watch this game live, at least he’s not throwing interceptions.
9:20 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: feed shane feed shane
9:20 – [Comment from katster]: I think we have three and they have two, but I could be wrong.
9:20 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: usc has a player named jordan cameron
9:20 – Jason: AFLAC!!!
9:21 – Jason: Great catch by Vereen on a camera shot that was zoomed in way too much
9:21 – Ken: I’m putting on my neckbrace and calling my lawyer.
9:21 – Jason: Oooh, HD now on CSN Bay Area
9:21 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: what is up with these cameramen
9:21 – [Comment from Matt]: I just realized I never really finished that statement…..
9:21 – Jason: Switch to 696, DirecTV’ers
9:22 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: we needa TD right now
9:22 – Jason: Pass on 3rd down, nothing doing. Sigh.
9:22 – Ken: Right read, bad throw
9:22 – Jason: Giorgio is out again.
9:22 – Jason: 33 yard try.
9:22 – Jason: Hit the upright.
9:23 – [Comment from Josh]: No
9:23Saturday September 25, 2010 9:23
9:23 – Jason: Personal foul on Cal.
9:23 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: tosh is looking skinny these days
9:23 – Ken: Hit the upright! This isn’t the Holmoe era still, is it?
9:24 – crumpackeroncal: Great chance for Cal to score goes phhhft! when Tavecchio’s FG try bangs against left upright. Still 6-3 Cal. [via Twitter]
9:24 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: here comes the downfall
9:24 – Jason: Spoken like someone who has seen this before.
9:24 – Ken: WENEEDPOINTS!
9:24 – Jason: Great play on D there, nnabufi!
9:24 – Jason: Stopping the swing pass.
9:24 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: usually in the second half
9:25 – Jason: Almost got Foles, short gain on the screen
9:25 – [Comment from Josh]: A turn over would be nice right now
9:25 – Jason: I hate these night games.
9:25 – Jason: I get stressed out and then can’t sleep
9:25 – Ken: You and me both Jason
9:25 – Jason: Foles ordered a pizza, it was delivered, he ate it, and then he chucked it downfield
9:25 – Jason: Campbell knocked it away, amazing job
9:25 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: i get the heart pumping, but for some reason, this week, i feel nothing
9:25 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i’ll settle for a stop
9:25 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i heard a stanford player delivered the pizza
9:26 – Jason: No, it was a Stanford graduate
9:26 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: ross is second guessing himself
9:27 – Jason: Riley to JOnes! Nice! Across the 50 to the 45.
9:27 – Jason: That was kind of an ugly setup and Riley stepped up under pressure and made a good throw.
9:27 – Ken: I swear it looked like the umpire was sneaking up for a blitz
9:27 – Jason: end of third quarter!
9:27 – Jason: I’ll point out, this game has a total of 9 points. The Giants-Rockies game tonight had a total of 19 runs.
9:27 – ESPN_Pac10: Halftime: Oregon 28, Arizona 24 – http://es.pn/9kjNrp [via Twitter]
9:27 – [Comment from katster]: okay, fourth quarter. C’mon, Bears.
9:28 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: 4!
9:28 – crumpackeroncal: Taut defensive game moves to 4th quarter. Strong safety Chris Conte playing well for Bears. [via Twitter]
9:29 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: a touchdown would really boost our momentum
9:29 – Jason: I believe it was Ken who said,
9:29 – Jason: WENEEDPOINTS
9:29 – Ken: Jeremy Ross and LT could easily be brothers
9:30 – Jason: Vereen handoff, small gain.
9:30 – Jason: No gain, in fact.
9:30 – Ken: Riley is starting to get some rhythm
9:31 – Jason: Good throw to Calvin for a first down. Riley delivered that ball as one of those straight, hard passes, which he can do much better than the ones where he kind of floats it
9:31 – Jason: Riley to Vereen at the 13, hit him in the hands… good throw.
9:31 – Jason: But incomplete.
9:31 – Jason: Sad.
9:31 – Ken: Right read, right throw, bad catch
9:31 – Jason: That was a TD.
9:32 – Jason: Sofele left
9:32 – Jason: GONE to the 15, mass acceleration there
9:32 – Jason: that was Bestlike
9:32 – Ken: YES! Sofele gets aronnd the corner
9:32 – Jason: lots of room, and he turned on the jets
9:32 – [Comment from katster]: nice run!
9:32 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: is that the longest run of sofele’s career?
9:32 – Jason: 18 yards for Sofele
9:32 – Jason: whistles
9:32 – Jason: Timeout Cal
9:33 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: great blocking
9:33 – Ken: Timeout Cal, Stevens didn’t know what the heck he was doing. Or was it Riley?
9:33 – Ken: Totally CBF. That Sofele run was all about the blocks setting up his ability to accelerate away.
9:34 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: wrong play call?
9:34 – [Comment from Josh]: Please please put this in the end zone Bears
9:34 – [Comment from katster]: I think it was Stevens.
9:34 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Is the O-line looking better on the run now? Or is something else opening this up?
9:34 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: I think the sausage company owner used his girlfriend for the commercial
9:34 – Jason: We were just talking about that here.
9:34 – Ken: I think it was Jason who said:WENEEDPOINTS!
9:34 – Jason: With the sound off that ad looks kind of like an, um, adult film.
9:35 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: tedford’s plan to stop trying to stress out the players is not working as planned…. he looks like he wants to kill riley
9:35 – Jason: SAUSAGES! Get it?
9:35 – Jason: Reverse to Ross, to the 12. Didn’t do what they wanted.
9:36 – Jason: Vereen down inside the 10
9:36 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: good hit by their linebacker
9:36 – [Comment from katster]: c’mon, Bears, we need a touchdown.
9:36 – Jason: 3rd and 5
9:36 – Jason: gonna be conservative
9:36 – ESPN_Pac10: Oregon State can’t keep up with Boise State – http://es.pn/bRDv63 [via Twitter]
9:36 – Jason: Yup, pitch
9:36 – Jason: Vereen fights down to the 5, that’s it
9:36 – Jason: Typical Tedford play call
9:37 – Ken: I rarely say this: GO FOR IT!
9:37 – Jason: Conservative formation, clearly saying run, pitch, short run.
9:37 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: we need a touchdown on this drive
9:37 – Jason: Kicking…
9:37 – Jason: From the far hash.
9:37 – Jason: geez
9:37 – Jason: It’s good
9:37 – Jason: Now we can lose by 1!
9:37 – [Comment from Josh]: The pessimist in me is feeling like a 10-9 score might be in our future
9:37 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: they are worn down, i would go for this
9:37 – [Comment from katster]: TAVECCHIO!
9:37 – Jason: Josh, you and me both.
9:38 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: sweet, Jason jason…. enough of that
9:38 – Ken: Offensive MVP for the game: The defense
9:38 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: They should have gone for that one
9:38 – Ken: Either that or Tavecchio
9:38 – Jason: The Giants lost 10-9 tonight, why not Cal too?
9:38 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: haha
9:38 – [Comment from Josh]: Let’s finish this off with a turn over (that’s the optimist in me)
9:39 – ESPN_Pac10: RT @slmandel: I dare anyone to make sense of this Cal Arizona game in light of what each did last week. Your head will explode. [via Twitter]
9:39 – Jason: Returned to the 30
9:39 – Ken: I am officially banning from this liveblog the character sequence: “9-10” or “10-9”
9:39 – Jason: (19-9)-(20-10)
9:39 – Jason: oh, no, I screwed up the math!
9:40 – Jason: Foles. Having some more pizza.
9:40 – Jason: X-IX
9:40 – Jason: Foles just having a stroll and eventually making a 6 yard completion
9:40 – Jason: First down on another shortish pass
9:41 – Jason: Inside run for a bit, to the 47
9:41 – Ken: Defense doesn’t look to have the intensity they did earlier
9:41 – Jason: Yeah, this is looking bad… AZ offense making some headway
9:41 – Jason: 2nd and 4
9:41Saturday September 25, 2010 9:41
9:41 – Jason: Offsides on Cal
9:42 – Jason: 1st down
9:42 – Jason: Cal still has fewer penalties than AZ, though
9:42 – Jason: WR screen for a gain of 5?
9:42 – [Comment from Josh]: Short passes, can we jump a route?
9:43 – Jason: End around
9:43 – Jason: To the 28
9:43 – Jason: Not a reverse, friend.
9:43 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: i wouldnt risk jumping anything right now
9:43 – Jason: 1st down
9:43Saturday September 25, 2010 9:43
9:43 – Ken: false start
9:44 – Jason: roll back you wildcats
9:44 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: defense breaking down
9:44 – Jason: Good stop there by Hagan
9:45 – Jason: Pressure! Sack by Kendricks!
9:45 – [Comment from Josh]: Kendricks!
9:45 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: kendricks has looked great this year
9:45 – Jason: 3rd and 13
9:45 – Ken: Pulled him down by his towel
9:45 – Jason: thrown about 6 yards wide in the end zone
9:45 – Jason: 4th down
9:46 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: they list foles at 245lbs
9:46 – [Comment from katster]: that was hilarious.
9:46 – Jason: FG attempt
9:46 – Jason: BATTLE KICKERS
9:46 – Jason: No good
9:46 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: just imagine, it could be 12-3 right now….. i’m just sayin
9:46 – Jason: They can blame the snapper, but that was just a terrible kick.
9:46 – [Comment from Josh]: Wow, that was about as good a result from that drive as we could have hoped
9:47 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: i would take any pts on this drive
9:47 – Ken: OK, I don’t know on the high def, but on the low def, the score emplem was RIGHT over the ball
9:47 – Jason: Can’t you get 696 ken?
9:47 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: we need pts now
9:47 – Ken: For those of you with kids, it reminded me of Monsters Inc, where the pictures always had the little green guy covered over by the UPC symbol or something
9:48 – Jason: As Thomas Jefferson once wrote,When in the course of human eventsWENEED POINTS
9:48 – Ken: Sure I can. Can my 27 TV built in 1999 tell the difference?
9:48 – Jason: oh dear
9:48 – Jason: Right, I forgot, you live a poorly defined life
9:49 – Ken: That was just attributed to Jefferson. It was really said by Adams
9:49 – Jason: You can have my old HDTV if you want. I’m getting a new one. The only catch is it weighs 200 pounds.
9:49 – Jason: Vereen runs for a first down
9:49 – Jason: Keep on running, Shane.
9:50 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: give sofele a carry
9:50 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: shane is not 100%
9:50 – Jason: Riley incomplete, cameraman completely confused
9:50 – Ken: Great camera work again
9:50 – Jason: Oh man, his hands were on it.
9:51 – Jason: Should’ve been a completion, I think
9:51 – Jason: Vereen!!
9:51 – Ken: Get out of the way Jones!
9:51 – Jason: Nice tackle there by Marvin Jones on Vereen
9:51 – Ken: That was a TD if he could ahve got around him
9:51 – Jason: Big gain for Vereen
9:51 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: bumper pool for Vereen
9:52 – Jason: Cameraman has no idea what is happening
9:52 – Jason: Vereen short gain
9:52 – Jason: Vereen taking a blow here
9:52 – Jason: Sofele in, presumably
9:52 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: these cameramen are just HORRIBLE
9:52 – Jason: Sofele up the middle, more yards
9:53 – Jason: 3rd and 1, apparently
9:53 – Ken: It’s pretty obvious why both teams can’t score. It’s the cameramen!
9:53 – Jason: Right up the middle by Stevens
9:53 – Jason: first down
9:53 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Roll on!
9:53 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i don’t know what any down and distance is, terrible broadcast
9:53 – Ken: Hey, the old FB crash. See? I told you we’d see more of that this year.
9:53 – Jason: The down and distance doesn’t come in until almost the next snap
9:54 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: looked like he got at least nine
9:54 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: great call
9:54 – Jason: Vereen, gain of 4
9:54 – Jason: That’s 2nd and 6, friends
9:54 – Jason: Timeout Wildcats
9:54 – Jason: 2:53 left
9:54 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: would it be bad for me to complain about this broadcast to CSN?
9:54 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: one more first down and it’s over
9:54 – [Comment from katster]: I think he’s over 100 now.
9:55 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: thanks jasno
9:55 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: very much appreciated
9:55 – Jason: Hey, if CSN lets you down, I’m here for you
9:55 – Jason: I realize just how I have let my football TV skills atrophy
9:55 – Jason: I used to be able to tell you down and distance, but with the first down stripe and graphics, I have just stopped paying attention
9:55 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i hope oregon goes down today, would be huge for pac-10 standings
9:56 – [Comment from NoBetterThanSolid]: any idea how many TOs AZ has left now? csn isn’t helping…
9:56 – Ken: If I knew how many timeouts AZ had left, I’d know if we needed two 1st downs
9:56 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i’m good at the down/distance when i’m at the games, but have you seen these cameramen?
9:56 – Jason: I’m good at the games, too
9:56 – Jason: But on TV I’ve just turned off that skill. Oh, the cameramen are atrocious.
9:56 – Jason: They are not helping.
9:56 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: Yes, going to Supercuts is in fact like gambling
9:56 – OkanesonCal: Back with more after the game [via Twitter]
9:57 – Jason: This is the time when Ken would head down to the locker room, too.
9:57 – Ken: OK, you ready for the most ridiculous part of being a sportscaster?
9:57 – Jason: You miss the end of the game?
9:57 – Ken: EXACTLY! You’re running from the press box to the sideline right at the most critical part of the game.
9:57 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: shane has about 95 yards
9:57 – [Comment from NoBetterThanSolid]: is tedford taking a knee/centering the ball here a la big game 09?
9:57 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: haha, Okanes thinks it’s over
9:58 – Jason: No, he has to go down to get to his interviews
9:58 – Jason: Regardless… it’s madness
9:58 – Jason: 3rd and 8
9:58 – Jason: Vereen, no surprise
9:58 – Jason: 22 yard line, FG time
9:58 – Jason: Timeout Arizona.
9:58 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: oregon is rolling now
9:58 – Ken: Oh, finally we hear that now.
9:58 – Jason: 35-24 Oregon.
9:58 – [Comment from NoBetterThanSolid]: guess they had all three TOs…
9:58 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: wuold have been nice to give our kicker the ball in the middle of the field
9:59 – Ken: I swore they used one earlier.
9:59 – Jason: Giorgio to kick.
9:59 – Jason: 40 yard try.
9:59 – Jason: no good.
9:59 – Jason: wide right
9:59 – [Comment from katster]: no good.
9:59 – Jason: Okay, Defense, it’s all on you now. As it has been all night, really.
9:59 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: come on defense
10:00 – [Comment from katster]: c’mon, defense, one last stop.
10:00 – Ken: If this were in Memorial, the stadium would be rocking right now
10:00 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: no expectations football
10:00 – Jason: 2nd and 5
10:00 – Jason: dropped by the WR, terrible.
10:00 – Jason: hit him right on the hands.
10:01 – Jason: 3rd and 5
10:01 – [Comment from Josh]: Please, one more great stand D
10:01 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: i like how we cant see what down and yardage, but the clock runs
10:01 – Jason: Insider handoff to Grigsby for a first. Sigh.
10:01 – Jason: No SQUAD HIT there.
10:01 – Jason: Chucked it up and the deep ball is complete at the 12.
10:02 – Jason: This is how you lose the game.
10:02 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: really good call by zona
10:02 – Jason: 52 yard pass.
10:02 – Jason: Grigsby to the 6, and they’re lucky they stopped him at all.
10:02 – [Comment from Josh]: Please, a turn over please
10:02 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i still like us here
10:02 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: well there goes the season
10:02 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: Sheesh
10:02 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: stop the clock
10:02 – Jason: When did we lose a fatalistic fan?
10:03 – Jason: Incomplete in the end zone, 2nd and goal
10:03 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: clock was running after the incompletion
10:03 – Jason: They made a big offensive play. We haven’t made one all night
10:03 – Jason: “That was a touchdown”… except they stopped playing because of the whistle.
10:03 – Jason: Offside on Cal
10:04 – Jason: 3rd and 4
10:04 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: even tedford is disgusted
10:04 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: He had to go to a less depressing event
10:04 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: i need the playcall, my feed stopped
10:04 – Jason: 3rd and 1 now
10:04 – Jason: inside the 5
10:04 – Jason: foles, end zone, touchdown
10:04 – [Comment from katster]: …well.
10:04 – [Comment from NoBetterThanSolid]: too easy…
10:05 – Ken: 1:11 for a miracle!
10:05 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: we have plenty of time and two timeouts
10:05 – [Comment from LeaderofthePac]: we just need a field goal
10:05 – [Comment from katster]: it is the score Ken said we shall not name. C’mon Bears.
10:05 – [Comment from NoBetterThanSolid]: how many TOs do we have? 2 or 3?
10:05 – Jason: 2
10:05 – [Comment from Calbearsfan]: good night all
10:05 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: plenty of time for a bear drive. (triumph of hope over experience)
10:06 – Jason: Sigh.
10:06 – Jason: Ross, from the 3, to the 24.
10:07 – Ken: The team looks shell shocked.
10:07 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: What’s with the rabid, half naked children on camera
10:07 – Jason: Riley to Vereen
10:07 – Jason: clock ticking
10:07 – Jason: riley to allen, out of bounds,
10:08 – Jason: the clock just stole 3 seconds there
10:08 – Jason: 39 yard line
10:08 – Jason: Intercepted on the deflection, game over
10:08 – Jason: fumbled
10:08 – Jason: but really
10:08 – Jason: What did you expect
10:08 – Jason: AZ ball
10:08 – [Comment from katster]: game over
10:08 – Ken: I hate tucson
10:09 – Ken: I hate tucson
10:09 – Ken: I hate Tucxon
10:09 – Jason: I am really tired of receivers letting balls go off their hands.
10:09 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: crap
10:09 – [Comment from Josh]: We led the entire game until now
10:09 – [Comment from NoBetterThanSolid]: gotta catch that…
10:09 – [Comment from 2 fatalistic fans]: You know what we expected… Thanks for the LIve blog guys
10:09 – Ken: We get the worst bounces there. We get the worst breaks. We continue to win battles for 50+ minutes and then lose it in such short periods of time!
10:10 – [Comment from OskiWowWow]: Night all.
10:10 – Ken: Two misses from Tav.
10:10 – Jason: The difference is the FG off the upright…
10:10 – Jason: But really, lots of opportunities not taken
10:10 – Ken: Interceptions that are just bad bounces
10:10 – [Comment from katster]: yeah, that bounces in, and we win.
10:10 – Jason: Game over.
10:10 – Ken: And I hate late games.
10:11 – Ken: I won’t be able to sleep for at least 3 hours more
10:11 – [Comment from katster]: this one sucks worse than Nevada, really.
10:11 – Jason: Good night everyone.
September 25th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Sweet, I totally forgot about this in the first couple games.
September 25th, 2010 at 8:11 pm
What’s the line on how many FGs Tavecchio will get?
September 25th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
I am tired of the “lets not lose” play calling. Cal should have gone for a TD in the last 3 min instead of the field goal try. The team needs to start breeding killer instinct.
In someways, Harbaugh’s “win mercilessly” philosophy is so much preferred.
We did this last year against Stanford and got away with it.
September 25th, 2010 at 10:37 pm
Being a Cal fan really isn’t very much fun.
September 25th, 2010 at 10:48 pm
The philosophy needs to change.
No experts picked Cal to win. No one expects you to win.
You have the win within grasp. Your kicker just hit the upright (bad omen)
They have Foles, and there is >2 min left.
You go for the TD. You try to win mercilessly(to Quote Harbaugh).
You try to put a nail in the coffin. Don’t put a paper tape over it.
STOP PLAYING “NOT to LOSE”
