Now shorter and (slightly) less rambly!
We recap the ASU game, including Ken’s legendary drive to and from the Valley of the Sun. Pre-hashing the Oregon State game at Berkeley. Glee at USC losing it, while realizing they’ll still probably end up in the BCS. What’s Cal’s record going to be this year? We’re still saying 9-3. Jason does a bad Bill Walton impression (all his impressions are bad, though, so at least he’s consistent), and we talk mascots, say the secret word, and try to perform an intervention on all teams with colors as their nicknames. There’s more listener homework, too, for the one of you who actually does it.

Our longest and most interminable episode yet! If you can get through this one, you’re made of Sturdy Golden Stuff.
Ken didn’t go to the WSU game. Jason did. This adds up to some pretty random analysis. We pre-hash the ASU game. We talk Pac-10 football, including bowl scenarios both ridiculous and sublime. Jason goes on a lengthy rant (people who actually have lives, fast forward through this part) about feeling kind of oogy about going to games in an era where Cal’s teams are actually successful. And what does The Lion King have to do with it all? If you can figure out what the heck we’re talking about, let us know, because we have no idea. Jason also does a terrible Larry King impression and we provide homework for our listener(s).
And when all is said and done, all those people who asked us to record longer podcasts will declare, “We take it back.”

Sorry this is so late (catch a re-occurring theme here?) with the OTRH podcast. While it was recorded right after the game, the trip to Disneyland and the ensuing backup at work when I returned had me scrambling to find time to edit it all together. But it’s done before the WSU game, so I’m not THAT late.
Here are the list of quotes at the end of the podcast from Tedford and Riley:
Tedford on Kevin Riley’s performance
Tedford on the pros to take away from the game
Tedford on rotating players for the heat
Tedford on SydQuan Thompson’s injury
Tedford on getting the win in LA
Tedford on message given to players at the start of the 4th quarter
Tedford on Shane Vereen’s performance
Tedford on 1st drive going for a touchdown
Tedford on Tavecchio’s performance
Tedford on having two 100 yard rushers in the game
Tedford on his ice bath at the end of the game
Tedford on comparing Best and Vereen to previous Cal tandems
Riley on his performance
Riley on the feeling of throwing his 1st TD in over 3 games
Riley on the 1st drive of the game
Riley on confidence gained from early success
Riley on his block downfield on Best’s TD run
Riley on Marvin Jones making the TD catches
Riley on team attitude now
Riley on why the team was successful today
Riley on heat
Riley on player rotations

We’re back like a bad habit. Jason and Ken are happier than last time. And although we skipped a week, this is a giant-sized edition, for those people with all sorts of time to kill.
Topics this week: Recapping the UCLA victory; looking forward to Washington State; Pac-10 results; trivia involving the names of Division I-A team mascots and how many Cougars are among them; why we’re not okay with a 4-8 season, but still think Tedford would deserve a mulligan; in which conference Cal would play if all Division I-A teams were split up by mascot type; Jason completely fails as an impressionist; Joe Starkey evaluated.

We’re back with — apparently by popular demand — our longest two-man podcast of the season. Though if you factor in the fact that last week there was no podcast at all, we’re still coming up woefully short in overloading you with more podcast than you can handle.
In any event, Jason and Ken are here for you. Here to tell you to think positively. Here you comfort you in your time of need. Here to… oh, who are we kidding? We’re here to weep softly to ourselves.
Topics this week: Why Jason left early; why we’re sad (hint: Oregon and USC); what the future holds; if Jeff Tedford should take out that second mortgage; the overcrowding at Memorial Stadium; the irony of Cal’s 2009 season poster; Uni Watch spots something funny in the Fun Zone; and how podcasting is cheaper than therapy.

The On The Road Home Podcast is up. Sorry it took so long to post. Sunday I ended up having less time to blog than I expected with a number of minor family commitments and Monday and Tuesday are my most commitment filled days of the week. So, it took until Wednesday morning to get this posted.
(As an aside, I still plan to do the reasons for optimism and despair posts throughout the rest of the week but the promised response to Avinash’s posts over at CGB are going to end up falling on the editing room floor as they say in the movies. Still 6 out of 7 isn’t bad.)

Hide your eyes, friends, it’s the fourth installment of this year’s Excuse Me For My Voice two-man podcast, featuring Ken Crawford and Jason Snell.
Today’s topics: Cal-Minnesota as viewed from our couches. ESPN’s announcers, who we aren’t big fans of. That awful third quarter that made every Cal fan fear the worst. Previewing Oregon, a match-up that makes us feel better than you might think, but that doesn’t mean it makes us feel good. Rehashing USC’s loss to Washington. Looking ahead to the meat of Cal’s schedule.
Oh, and uniform talk. Did you know that there are 80 combinations of Oregon Ducks uniforms? Or 160, if you count black and white shoes.

Don’t go into shock with me posting this on the day (OK, evening) of the game. It’s a lot easier when I’m not traveling to and fro to get the podcast finished in a reasonable amount of time. In any case, enjoy:

well, let there be no doubt that I’m dedicated to Cal football. There were FIVE different opportunities to hear my scratchy voice this week:
- On The Road Home podcast
- BearTerritory.net podcast
- Speaking at the Sacramento Grid Club
- EMFMV podcast w/ Jason
- And most recently (and the point of this post) the Gopher Football Blog Podcast
The Gopher Football blog guys got a hold of me earlier this week and it took a near act of God to get my interview scheduled with everything else on the Calendar and the two-hour time difference. We finally synced up last night. Here’s the result:
http://gopherfootball.podomatic.com/entry/2009-09-17T20_49_03-07_00
(Note that I was having some trouble listening to it on the permalink but I suspect it’ll work fine for you. If it doesn’t, it is embedded on their blog http://gopherfootball.blogspot.com/.)
The interview with me starts somewhere around the 15:00 mark.

Here’s the On The Road Home podcast I recorded on the way home from the Eastern Washington game. Sorry it’s a little slow out the chute, I got really busy. It’s going to be an unbelievably busy fall…

We’re back with the second installment of this year’s Excuse Me For My Voice podcast, featuring Ken Crawford and Jason Snell.
Today’s topics: Recapping the Maryland game. Where is Eastern Washington, and what is its mascot? Why will we be asking their fans to take off a certain color of shirt? Also, a look at the other Pac-10 games of week one, including Oregon and Washington.

My first Press Conference podcast of the season is up over at BearTerritory.net:

As always, it is free for all to listen to.
This season I won’t be able to do the mid-week Press Conference podcast every week but I do hope to do it as many weeks as possible. There will be the On The Road Home podcast every week, but it will only include player and coach interviews for road games.

We’re back with the first installment of this year’s Excuse Me For My Voice podcast, featuring Ken Crawford and Jason Snell.
This time we have a lot to talk about: The Maryland game, handicapping the entire upcoming season, talking about the Pac-10’s new bowl ties, and even offering some mildly informed opinions about the new gigantic hole to the west of Memorial Stadium.

My 2nd podcast of the fall is up over on BearTerritory.net:
http://cal.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=977977
Sadly, it looks like there will only be one more of these before the season, what with the embargo on press at practice. Unfortunately it’s just not worth my time to make the trip from Roseville down to Berkeley just to get 10 minutes of practice and 10 minutes of interviews. So the next podcast will be from the Tuesday September 1st press conference before the Maryland game.
I’ll have some thoughts on the change in press access later today or tomorrow.
