Dear Ken,
Would you please consider writing an article to share your thoughts on why Cal’s recruiting has been so terrible this year? I know that a statistical comparison between Cal and USC when it comes to recruiting isn’t fair, but this year we only have 5 total commitments, and none of them are ranked higher than #14.
I know our facilities are terrible, but we are finally making progress on that. Besides, that hasn’t stopped Tedford from landing some pretty darn good classes in the past. But this year, we can’t get anyone to come to the best university on earth. What gives?
I am especially concerned about WR and RB talent. With our wideouts struggling, new facilities on their way, a first-class education to offer, and a decent track record with receivers, why can’t we convince a blue chip guy to come to Cal and become a star in his first year? Or a bruising RB?
Again, I understand that comparing USC to Cal on recruiting is like comparing Barack Obama to Dan Quayle at campaigning, but seriously. They have commitments from FOUR elite safeties. And they are still recruiting 2 more!?!?! They can only play two safeties at a time, and they got a bunch of studs last year, and they will get more next year. Why can’t we convince one or two of these kids to come to Cal and be a star?
I would appreciate your expert analysis.
