Oregon game at 12:30 on ABC
(Written by kencraw)
This is a bit late, but for those who didn’t know, the Oregon game will be on ABC at 12:30 (on 11/1) like many expected. Here’s the release.
As a reminder, here are the remaining games and their TV coverage:
Date | Opponent | Current TV | TV Options |
---|---|---|---|
10/25 | UCLA | ABC @ 12:30 | n/a |
11/1 | Oregon | ABC @ 12:30 | n/a |
11/8 | USC | ABC @ 5:00 | n/a |
11/15 | OSU | decision 11/3 | ABC @ 12:30 or FSN @ 7:15 or ? |
11/22 | Big Game | ? | ? |
12/6 | UW | guaranteed decision 11/24 | FSN @ 12:00 or ESPN(2) @ 5:00 |
That just leaves the OSU game which has a couple options and the mysterious Big Game which seems to have no options and no activity on a pick-up by CSN-West. There’s got to be something going on behind the scenes there. Otherwise every other game for the 2008 season will be picked up on TV.

Calbears.com has the big game set for 12:30. Is that not correct?

I suspect that Calbears.com knows something we don’t — perhaps that Channel 7 is picking up the game in the 12:30 ABC slot? That would be the most reasonable explanation for the fact that the game is listed at 12:30 on Cal’s own site.

Lauren, thanks for the info. I was not aware of that. It happened pretty quietly. You’ll notice when you look at the details on calbears.com, it shows no TV coverage. While Jason’s theory is reasonable too (and they just haven’t announced it yet), it’s also possible the story is that they tried all available options and couldn’t get anyone to pick it up, so they just fixed the time to 12:30 knowing it wouldn’t be on TV.
That really surprises me that CSN-West didn’t want that game. Must be something else going on that is higher priority than the Big Game.

Oregon State game was just picked up by ABC. If you look at CalBears.com it shows the Big game at 12:30PM and if you click on the game in the schedule it says ABC Regional. Interesting.
