Article on Verran Tucker
(Written by kencraw)
My 2nd spotlight article from the game is now posted over at BearTerritory.net:
http://cal.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=865091
It is a subscription article. Just as an FYI, here’s what you should expect to see from me this week:
- BT: Article with full list of player quotes (today)
- EMFMV: Posting of YouTube video of my College Football NOW appearance last friday (tonight)
- EMFMV: On the Road Home Podcast for Arizona with player quotes (today or tomorrow)
- BT: Practice podcast with player quotes (Weds)
- EMFMV: detailed photo or videoanalysis of why Arizona was able to seal the edge against Cal (Weds or Thurs)
- BT: Statistical preview of UCLA game (Thurs or Fri)
Finally, a shoutout to California Golden Blogs writer ragnarok who went on the road trip to Arizona with me. He made the trip a lot more enjoyable, particularly what would have been a REALLY long drive home after the loss and cut my gas costs in half. Thanks for coming along rag!

Ken,
I’ve enjoyed your blog for quite a while but have to say I’m reaching the conclusion it is not worth checking any more. I like your passion and analysis, but now that you write for pay, and your good stuff all requires a subscription, it seems there is no point in checking here. I mean, if I was willing to pay for football news, hell, I wouldn’t be checking blogs. I don’t fault you for wanting to make a buck, but I don’t think you can have it both ways exactly.
Peace.

’91, I won’t lie and say that this blog hasn’t suffered because of the BearTerritory.net gig. It definitely has. But, two things I’d like to point out as to why there’s reason to keep checking here:
-Finishing those bookshelves was definitely key for me and since I went straight into the road-game at Arizona after that, I haven’t got back into my routines yet. With 4 of the last 6 games being home games, which I don’t report for BT on, you’ll see a lot more quality posts here.
-I’ve had the BT gig now for 3 years and there’s been ebbs and flows of it. Late in 2006, posting here (well, the previous blog anyway) suffered much more heavily than in early 2006 or 2007.
So hang in a bit longer and you’ll see a lot more quality posts here in the next few weeks.

Hey Ken,
I appreciate your thoughtful reply. I’ll hang in there and see. Like I said, I’m absolutely all for you making some cash or a living off your passion for football, I just wasn’t sure it was worth it for us freeloaders. I happen to have a blog myself, on my sailboat, and although it is a minor affair, I appreciate the time involved in writing posts.
Something I appreciate about your blog is that it is written with relatively little hyperbole other than a likable Go Bears! attitude. I’m not 18 and prone to drinking the Cool Aid. I am, however, a somewhat absurdly passionate Cal football and basketball fan and am always interested in intelligent insights into the teams. One of the things I love about Cal, and Michigan, for that matter, is that I simultaneously love academics, athletics, and publicly funded institutions of higher learning. I’m doomed to follow Cal to the end of my days.
Thank you for making it even more fun.
