Texas OTRH Podcast
(Written by kencraw)
Sorry it took so long to post this. These quick trips take a lot out of me with my already too busy schedule. I still intend to post a post-game thoughts post as well.
Overall, I don’t feel this is my best podcast. What occurred to me after I recorded it is how much more brain power it takes to drive on roads that you’re not familiar with than a route you take all the time. I was having a much harder time concentrating on my game thoughts than I would have liked.
But judge for yourself:

Ken,
Cal is not an elite team. We’re not expecting them to win the Pac 12, but year-to-year improvement is what is desired.
This team is better than last year’s team. The defense is better — it’s hard not to be. The offense is more refined and the O line is definately better.
I agree with you about the defense in the first half. The cover 2 is vulnerable in the middle. To have wide open receivers on the sidelines is a major failure. It seemed to me that adjustments were made at halftime and the secondary was much better. The defensive problem in the second half was QB Jerrod Heard. He ran for 2 scores late in the 4th qtr — because the defense was guarding the receivers.
Daniel Lasco didn’t play. While Cal is deep at RB, losing his experience did hurt. You mentioned the Muhhamed fumble as he was about to score. I don’t think Lasco fumbles there. In the 4th quarter I think Lasco could have produced more yards…perhaps a 1st down.
It’s a win against an elite program on the road in a 90,000 seat stadium. That has meaning. Notice I didn’t say elite team and I know the stadium was not full.
Too many mistakes and holes in the defense — at least the coaching staff knows what to work on.
