Here it comes…
(Written by kencraw)
One of the things wordpress (the blog software) provides is what search strings were used to link to the site. This morning every search term had a combination of the words “Fire” and “Tedford”.
While if Tedford gets the team back to winning it’ll be fine, there’s no doubt the seat is a bit warmer than it used to be.
Clarification at 10:45 AM: I’m not saying I’m jumping on the fire Tedford bandwagon. This post was just intended to be a statement of fact. I’m not quite sure what I think. Duke may have it just about right… Tedford has until the end of 2012 to show us he’s got the program back on track.

how do you know people aren’t talking about going camping with Mr. Tedford and roasting smores by a fire?

Dude, that’s exactly what I meant. Why else would his seat/log that he’s sitting on be getting warm except for the fire on which they were roasting smores!?!

Welcome aboard, Ken!
I think he has until the end of next season. Then, really, he needs to go.

We all wanted an “upset” against SC last night and instead we find ourselves just upset today.
I am sorry Ken but I am in that “Time for Tedford to go” crowd. Tedford has always been responsible for the offense and even more so this year. What continues to be our biggest issue since 2007, the offense.
This season, despite Tedford taking a more hands on approach to the offense and the QB’s I have seen little improvement from Maynard and the offense over the last 10 quarters (2nd half against UW through last night). Sure we have put up some nice yardage totals but they are of the empty yard variety type as we have moved the ball but can’t seem to score.
Tedford is now 0-3 against Sark and Kelly, 2-7 against Riley, and 0-2 against Kiffin. These are coaches we will see every year and I have little faith that Tedford is able to out coach or is even better than those four at this point in his career.
Attendance will continue to drop through the season and that trend will continue into next season as we will probably experience two blowout losses at the end of this season against the furd and ASU. Fans are tuning Tedford and Cal football out. It is really sad but last night we saw a Holmoe-esque offensive performance.
I read on CGB that Tedford, like Holmoe in 2001 has now started Pac12 play with an 0-3 record. That does not inspire much confidence.

Oh the myopic masses!
Cal is a QB away from being a very good team. Almost all the stupid stuff was done by Maynard. This includes 3 interceptions, a fumble and several muffed snaps/handoffs.
Maynard telegraphs his passes and is terrible throwing to his right.
The problem is that, at times, Maynard looks great. I can see why the coaching staff wants to play Maynard. Look what Russel Wilson has done for Wisconsin.
We don’t know how good the other QB’s are. Perhaps Maynard is the best possible choice right now. As fans, we don’t have access to that info.
There is no way that Tedford gets fired before the stadium gets rebuilt. For all of you who don’t get history, the stadium is getting rebuilt because of Tedford.
The defense has been outstanding. The young players have really done well.
The offensive line looks good. The running backs are solid and the receivers are great.
So do you fire Tedford because the QB can’t execute?
The coahing staff has done an outstanding job with the defense. The young players are stepping in an doing well.

I don’t think we’re “just a QB away.”
We have a center who can’t shotgun snap.
We have talented WR’s who drop catchable balls.
We have inane penalties.
We rugby punt with an all-american punter
We’ve had several extra points blocked.
We have a deep and talented Dline that’s neutralized way too often.
Our senior punt returner caught 3 balls within the 10 and one one the 3 yard line.
We haven’t “out schemed” anyone in a long time, especially on offense.
We had to move an all-conference LG to RT because several 4* tackles weren’t ready yet.
We have now managed to have many games over many years where the QB can’t complete passes to wide open receivers.
We’ve had better recruiting classes but with that surprising increase in recruiting came ties to still non-confirmed yet potentially shady characters (will lyles, otis yelverton).
Just feels like it’s more than just a qb, although a good qb hides lots of sins…:)

Carp et al:
Tedford was Pac 10 coach of then year in 2002 and 2004. Boller was QB in 2002 and Rodgers in 2004. Boller and Rodgers are the only QB’s in the Tedford era drafted in the NFL. Perhaps you saw Rodgers recieve the Super Bowl MVP trophy in February.
I guess when Tedford has a good QB, he magically becomes a good coach. When Cal has a has a mediocre QB, it’s time to hang poor Jeff.

Longshore’s high ankle sprain in Eugene was a paradigm shifting moment. It marked the end of the miraculous program that Tedford helped build. Since then, in Pac10/12 play in games not against Washington St, Cal’s record is:
11-21

I used to think it was the QBs, now I think it’s the system. It’s probably too early in Maynard’s career to tell, but this could be the third qb in a row that has regressed over the course of his tutelage under Tedford–Longshore, Riley, and Maynard (not counting Mansion since he was ill-prepared to start with). How many times have we seen QBs who have lost their ability to throw that pass outside on the flats and ye have that high-risk, low reward play called for them time again to disastrous results? When his QB’s confidence begins to slide he doesn’t adjust his play calling to get them the right plays to begin to build it back up. No doubt Tedford had a hand in Rodgers’s development, but in hindsight it’s clear that he also possessed special characteristics and a Marino-like confidence that transcended coaching. That said, I do think Tedford is owed next year. He built that stadium, and unlike Mooch and Snyder, passed up some pretty choice opportunities to stay here and see it through. Of course if we lose this week, I may be whistling a new tune.

I’m not going to lie, I appreciate everyone’s thoughts about when/if Tedford has fired. But you’re all fooling yourself. Who the heck are we going to get to come in here and change the world? We’re NOT USC or OREGON!
We’re CAL-I-FRICKING-FOR-NIA!
Maybe it’s the Old Blue in me, but Tedford should roam the sidelines for at least 5-6 more years, and honestly, he’s got my vote of confidence for until we post another 0-fer season. Let’s finish the stadium, and give him a class or two to recruit with our great new facilities to right the ship.
Maynard’s biggest problem (besides his inability to throw the ball) is that we DON’T have a RB. We had Arrington, then Lynch, then (shuidder) Forsett, then Best, and now we’ve got some guy. Cal does really good when we have a GOOD RUNNING BACK. Look at when we sucked, it’s when we had Forsett, and now this schmuck. When were we good? When we had Arrington, Lynch, and Best.
Good RB + Competent QB = Winner.
