Dignity and defense (EMFMV 2010 #9)
(Written by jsnell)
Cal loses a home game! But: the “Cal is great at home” theory remains intact. What an amazing defensive performance against Oregon. It beat our “best-case scenarios” hands down. Now Jason and Ken muse about what the Oregon game might mean, preview an increasingly winnable-looking Big Game, and talk about how Ken’s scenario for Pac-10 Bowl Ruination might actually come to pass.

If anyone pulls a Mack Brown on Stanford, it very likely will be Les Miles. He’s already lobbying that the highest-ranked SEC team at the end of the regular season (obvious read that he’s hoping it be LSU) should be given a shot at the NCG. Aside from being tired of the SEC playing in the championship (and subsequently winning, thus continuing the self-perpetuating chest-thumping that is SEC power), I simply have a strong distaste for those Bayou Bengals. If Oregon’s foremost reason for winning is, as it should be, to stay on top and play for the championship, then I proffer that the next reason should be to not allow an SEC team to leapfrog it. Should Auburn fall, that penultimate spot atop the polls must not be filled by LSU. Oregon can help that along by not losing its last 2 games.
Sidenote: seeing that duck bored on the sidelines without his regular push-up regimen was hilarious.

Hey guys –
Thanks for the ‘cast, as usual. Here’s hoping that the game against the ‘Furd will be the ante-penultimate game, with a nice bowl win to round out the season.
I couldn’t watch the game, and could only check in at spots; Cal up 7-0 at the beginning, 8-7 at the half, and the final score. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone or something. My sister asked me if she should take a bet with a 20 point spread and I said no way. So big kudos to the Cal D for that one.
Any thoughts/rants/comments about the accusations that the Cal D was diving? Seems like Oregon’s finding something to be cranky about and excuses are pretty thin on the ground.

I’m surprised there wasn’t more discussion about the brilliant strategy of faking injuries during the game to get the right personnel on the field. It made sense to me and doesn’t necessarily give Cal any unfair advantage, so Oregon fans need to stop quacking and go duck themselves

Not to sure what to make of the Stanford game. The team that shuts down the Oregon offense can’t even tackle a QB in an open field. This season doesn’t make sense. I’m heading back to California for Thanksgiving and will be going to the Washington game. I’m hoping that the sloppy performance against Stanford is not the penultimate sloppy/horrible game of the season.

I wanted to point out that during the MNF Game, David Akers seemed to have false started, then composed himself before the snap? Thus, no false start was called… I’m not 100% sure if the rules are different between college and NFL, but I just found that interesting…
