While I can understand why people may be deterred by inclement weather, I would at least encourage the students to show up. It’s a worthwhile experience, even if soggy. With my dual-caps and extra-thick jacket, traversing to/from the stadium and going crazy in the student section in the rain was like my own little nautical adventure. Granted, USC ’07 was downright depressing, but who can forget the less-rainy-but-oh-so-flooded Oregon game?
Correct me if my recent memory fails me, but the team has seemed to play well in rain with the possible exception of aforementioned USC. Weather reports show 20% chance precipitation in Corvallis Saturday afternoon… hmm…
And yes, the idea of likely consistently having a tougher conference slate than the other “Northern Division” schools is rather daunting.

That 2007 USC game was disappointing, but I wouldn’t call it bad play. If you look at how the team played in their other games in the 2nd half of 2007, it was one of their better performances.
Perhaps there is something to this rain thing…

OK, looked up the rain stats. Not so great actually. Bears are:
0-2 in “light rain”
2-1 in “rain”
0-1 in “showers”
(this is during the Tedford era)

Hi guys,
I must say I really like this podcast, keep up the good work. I listened to it a little last year, but I haven’t been listening to it for most of this season because I moved out to the east coast to go to law school which has kept me busy. Also I only recently learned that there are podcast apps for android phones. I just now had a chance to catch up on all the podcasts and I have some thoughts for you.
First off what is up with this team this year? They look great for two games and then they lay an egg the next. With this 2>1 pattern we’ll beat (or at least play well against) OSU but then get crushed by Wazzu so I don’t think this pattern will hold up for much longer. It seems like it’s a very Jekyll & Hyde type of season this year. It’s frustrating trying to figuring out how good the team is, the team is so hard to figure out sometimes it’s almost as if the team is androgynous, almost as much as Lane Kiffin is.
I was though able to get back to Fornia, ride AC Transit up the hill, and see the UCLA game. I was impressed by the way they played, but then again it was at home. The next home game is Oregon so I’m interested to see how good we play at home against them. With the way Cal plays at home I wouldn’t be surprised if we beat them, the last time Oregon came to Berkeley they were a fairly hot team that we were able to beat solidly. Though that was the crazy lake game and I suspect that this game won’t be quite as nautical as that one was.
While I do have my gripes about the team, I’m not part of the fire Tedford crowd. I’m with you guys that I think with the right facilities and enough time he’ll take us to the Rose Bowl, even with the new Pac-12 championship game. I thought the bowl streak you guys mentioned was a good point about how successful Tedford has been at Cal. I don’t understand these fire Tedford people sometimes, we’re lucky to even have Tedford. I heard that back in 02 when he was hired he had just accepted the job as head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs before he backed out of it to interview for and get the job at Cal.
Thanks Ken and Jason for the excellent work you guys do on the podcast and GO BEARS!

@Greg S: High-five on all your points! I’m in a similar boat as you, I just moved out to Illinois this year for law school! Clearly I am not as studious.
