USC’s defense is suspect
(Written by kencraw)
After watching portions of last nights USC@Hawaii game my general thought is that USC is no longer the defensive juggernaut that they used to be. That was the key to their whole success is the defense. It kept them in games and allowed the offense time and opportunities to get back on track when they stalled.
USC looks even more vulnerable than last year based on what I saw last night.

One has to think that the lack of tackling in practice showed on the field last night.
The biggest surprise was that their defensive line looked average, which I think is usually the case whenever a team is touted as having “the best defensive line in the country.” For whatever reason, I’ve seen teams struggle when they’ve had that label the last few years.
Chris Galippo looked lost out there at MLB and it’s no surprise that Devon Kennard beat him out. Kennard also looked very good in a couple plays that I saw him around the ball.
Lane Kiffin is already padding Matt Barkley’s stats by throwing inside the five yard line. They run the ball all the way up field and let Barkley cap it off.
Robert Woods looked great at WR, and Marc Tyler is an upgrade at RB compared to Allen Bradford. Kiffin called a great game offensively. They look like they’ll lose three or four games this year.
