A note to Duck fans
(Written by kencraw)
Well, my post on the Cal vs. Oregon history must have gotten linked on some Oregon site, because I’m getting a lot of Oregon commentors, which is great. I just have one request:
This is not the site for nasty trash talking. If you want to do that, go to one of the many over the top message boards. On this site, only reasonable analysis is welcome. Slightly biased analysis, including commentary on why you think the Ducks will win, is fine, but it should be supported by reasonable arguments.
Unfortunately just about every year we here at EMFMV get a commentor or two during the week of the Oregon game who is just out to make noise and spout ridiculously over-confident statements, things like:
If you think Oregon is going to score only 24 points over the coarse of the entire game, you don’t know anything about Oregon. They will score 24 points in the first quarter.*
*Funny thing about that 24 points he was complaining about, it turned out to be the final score for the Ducks last year.
There’s no need for that type of stuff and it is not welcome here. Please keep your comments respectful (and that goes for Cal fans too, although most who come here regularly have been reminded of that before).
So welcome Duck fans! I’m glad you visited… but please keep the commentary respectful.

I’m embarrassed to say that with Duck football success, some of our fans have begun to act like the Huskies we hated in their good times. Forgive the rest of us who are trying to remain respectful with Duck success. I look forward to your analysis (this week).

I echo Muttville’s sentiments. You guys have a great program and a great coaching staff and I am looking forward to another great game with you guys regardless of the outcome.

Why is it Oregon fans who seem to be singled out? Thanks for the hugs Cal fans. It gets old thinking Oregon fans are the worst. Have you ever been to Oregon-St or Wash not wearing thier colors? I wouldn’t do it trust me, they are not so friendly.
Sorry if Duck fans have passion for our team…
Cal has been a thorn lately to Oregon so I’ll say sorry for the fans up front since the thin skins seem to be out.

I commented earlier with a very polite and thorough analysis of my game prediction.
However, the example you sighted from last year isn’t disrespectful, overconfident yes, but nothing wrong with that.
That being said, Oregon 34, Cal 31
Oregon wins with late 4th Quarter Evenson FG.

Your point is well-taken. Our fans (Ducks) have an unfortunately high %, albeit a minority, of classless jerks. It was a Northwest thing for years, between UW, WSU, and OSU fans. I have been to every PAC-10 stadium, and this stupidity was pretty much a Northwest thing until recently. Unfortunately on my last two visits to Berkeley, it is starting to be evident there, also. People? like post 3 need to go away.

It’s football…not afternoon tea.

OK Bears, you asked for it………..I visited Cal about 8 years ago to see the Ducks play, and I was blown away; the Campus has the most interesting architecture of any school I have ever visited; the Cal fans were great hosts, and it felt like Eugene with palm trees and a lot more sun. Unlike the USC and UW fans (an unfortunately, a few of our Duck fans) the Cal fans were a class act. All in all, I think Cal fans can be pretty proud of thier school and team. Even after we beat you on Saturday, you can be proud of your school and team.

Hey guys. To follow up my request, I must say that when I’ve traveled to Eugene your fans have been some of the nicest I’ve seen. I’ve been to a number of Pac-10 stadiums at this point and Oregon was one of the best. Arizona on the other hand was beligerant when I went there, but Oregon fans are a class-act in person. It’s just a small percentage of the online community.
Luke, you’re comments in the other thread were fine, so I hope you don’t think this post was a reaction to anything you or the other posters so far said. It was more a pre-emptive strike because of a couple of comments last year and actually far more comments from the previous year, 2006.

Yeah, it was pretty stupid of me to be concerned about the minority of Oregon fans who love to come to other people’s blogs and deride them… because that never happens. I go ALL YEAR without these comments, year after year after year… until the Oregon game week.
The fact that I work REALLY hard to have good content on this blog including waking up well before the crack of dawn before my kids are up to be able to write is something make a bunch of bigoted comments about? Yeah, that’s class through and through.
You know what, if you guys have so much pent up energy, why not go play some actual football instead of just being jerks online. And when you play against a guy like me who will hit you as hard as you can imagine but still treats you with respect and dignity when the game is done, perhaps then you’ll find some maturity.
If you don’t like this blog, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. There are plenty of websites that will tolerate your sophomoric and vile comments and if you’re not satisfied with those, start your own. Whatever it is, there’s no reason to come here and act stupid, particularly when I’ve explicitely asked you not to.
Even the tree-sitters were more respectful than you guys…
October 29th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
A blog named Excuse Me For My Voice is trying to limit my voice? Interesting…
I hope it is a good game. It will be neat to be back to Berkeley since the tree sitters are gone and see the change.

Arizona was belligerent? Kind of like the Cal fan who whined on this site that the worst thing about the game was being in Tucson? It’s okay if you don’t come. Just send your team to get beat, and we’ll be fine here in Tucson without you.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
aznemesis, it was actually the words of the fans after the game directed towards the team that I thought was the most ridiculous, so whether or not I’m there is irrelevant. Nevertheless, I’m not sure who on this site has said anything negative about Tuscon other than it is a very long drive, and I’m not sure how one could take offense to that.
But back to the players, I’m sorry, but if you want to taunt the team before and during the game, that’s fine. If you want to rush the field or stay and cheer your victory after the game, that’s fine too. Heck, if you want to deride the opposition after they’ve beat you to take some of the edge off, that’s fine as well. But it’s just vindictive and mean-spirited to sit in the stands for a half-hour after the game and yell obsenities at a team that you guys just beat. You don’t need to rub it in just for “good measure”. I wouldn’t feel good hearing Cal fans do it after a Bear victory and I definitely felt it was beligerant when I saw it directed a bunch of student-athletes in Tuscon.
