Cal Ranked #3
(Written by jsnell)
In a first for my lifetime, Cal is ranked #3 in the AP and USA Today polls.
In other news, is it just me or is it weird to watch the Buffalo Bills offense, with Trent Edwards at QB and Marshawn Lynch in the backfield? That’s just wrong, people.

CAL definitely deserves to be #3, if not #2. From the Washington game yesterday, you can tell that USC has alot of weaknesses, its not the same team of the past few years. I just hope CAL doesn’t do what they did last year and come into games complacent and expecting to win and then have to bear an upset. It’s definitely a great feeling to be a BEAR today. I think I’m going to go give some more money to the football scholarship fund tomorrow. lol.

“come into games complacent”
I was thinking about that too, and I think the answer is this bye week. In addition to the physical healing that will be going on, Tedford has two weeks to get their heads screwed on straight.
These kids are in a position they have never been in before, right now, today. They thought they knew media hype before today? They’ve never seen anything like what is coming.
Today begins new way of looking at things and a whole new set of motives, expectations, and levels of commitment required. I’m glad Tedford has two weeks to calm them down and remind not to get too comfortable at #3; that once slip means no national championship and two means another Holiday Bowl.
They survived a war yesterday. The young players took a big step toward becoming veterans and the veterans became more experienced veterans. Everyone on that team will be a little bit harder to rattle after yesterday.
Tedford has two weeks to get their heads right. I think he will be able to do it.

September Heisman watch
November is when such things are won, and October puts guys in position, but at least September sets the stage. A third of the way through the “campaign,” here’s how my ballot looks at the end of September.
1. DeSean Jackson, WR, California
2. Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
3. Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
…and…
One by one, upsets in the top five are paving a lane to New Orleans for the Bears, who Saturday again showed that they are just the kind of team to complete this season of upsets. Of course, Kentucky, Boston College, or South Florida, also are unfolding splendid stories this season, but Cal clearly has the best opportunity to control its own destiny and earn the trip to the BCS Championship game.

I’m not thinking about USC, I’m thinking about playing every week, controlling our own destiny, and winning the national championship. One of those weeks it’s USC coming? OK, then that week we beat them. Simple as that.

Since i don’t have a blog with nearly any traffic…i thought that i would relay this and hope it find some equally disgruntled Cal Fans:

This is the link to the AP poll entry by Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso (TX) Times. It has Cal at a ridiculous #13 for week #6.

it is a bit weird… for sure… but i’m just thinking about what’s best for our recruiting… and that’s ML winning ROY (rookie of the year), and becoming the featured back for years to come…
the only way that happens is if the Billls get some kind of passing game (currently there’s more rushing yard than passing)… so that defenses take that target off of ML’s back… if you give ML some lanes and a chance to get to full speed… nobody stops him… he’ll run through bricks to get into the end zone… then, the probowl awaits… and more good publicity for Cal and then more ‘out of area’ recruits.

What’s Bloomquist got againt CAL? Is he actually paid to put that poll in his paper? Oregon ahead of CAL and they beat them in Oregon?
Oh wait I get it he really likes CAL and wants them to go to the Sun Bowl in El Paso so he can watch them in person!

Hey bar20, i was equally appalled at this Bloomquist character but I guess it was a typo…this is an excerpt from the San Jose Mercury News…:
But there was one ballot this week that merited further inspection, and it belonged to Brett Bloomquist of the El Paso Times. Last week, he had Cal sixth and Oregon 11th, exactly where they were in the overall poll. Then the Bears won that riveting game in Eugene. Bloomquist’s poll this week:
5. Oregon
13. California
“I just flat blew it,†Bloomquist said. “I’ll correct it next week.â€
He said he was aware of the result and meant to put Cal fifth and Oregon 13th. I’m sure I’ll be accused of coddling my fellow sportswriters, but I buy that. You have to look at this for what it is — a typo, pure and simple. Unfortunate that it made its way into public view, but I’m sure everyone in every office in the country makes an error of similar ilk now and then.
Besides, give eight more points to Cal and take away eight points from Oregon, and it doesn’t change the order of the top 25 at all. That’s usually the case — even when Wilner has South Carolina fourth, it doesn’t affect their overall position.
But see that, Cal fans? You’re already guaranteed eight more points on a bye week.

Bloomquist is still an idiot for putting Cal fifth.
