McIlwain sinks the Bears again
(Written by kencraw)
When will Wilcox and staff realize that McIlwain can *NOT* be trusted with the ball for more than a play or two? I think the Bears would have won that game had Garbers been in on that drive that resulted in an INT in the endzone. Instead, everything went sideways from that point.
GAH!
(If you’re looking for a silver lining… the Bears continue to show they can compete with anyone in the conference.)

It’s a perfect example of the right play that was poorly executed.
I don’t mind that this coaching staff is taking chances to win the game, I prefer that over the ultra-conservative Tedford.

Definitely. The play was there but McIlwain missed the throw. But I’d argue that McIlwain is the wrong QB to try and make that throw. He doesn’t have touch. He’s OK when he can rocket a ball in there, but make him throw with touch and you’re asking for trouble. The key to that pass was to lob it in there.
