Jahvid’s Gone

(Written by Jason Snell)

Jahvid Best will enter the NFL draft.

Can’t say I’m surprised, but it’s always sad to see those stars leave early. I wish him great success.

More thoughts from Ken:

I wish him the best as well and am similarly as unsurprised.

I worry a great deal about his future in the NFL with his injuries and his style which didn’t seem to have as much success when matched up against players with speed (and all the players in the NFL have speed). But here’s hoping he’s Cal’s next example of good play in the NFL following in the recent footsteps of Lynch, DeSean, and Rodgers.

I think there’s a place for him in the NFL, but it isn’t as an every down back. I’d be surprised if he gets picked in the 1st round. But who knows. Regardless, I wish him all the success in the world. He was a fantastic representative of the team and university while he was here. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to watch him play. His performance against Washington in ‘08 is probably the best single-game performance I’ve ever seen in any sport by any player, and his run against UCLA this year at the Rose Bowl was one of the more exciting plays I’ve ever seen in person.

Great kid and as much as I hate to see him leave I sure as hell can’t argue with the decision. So congrats Jahvid! He’s not an every down back in the NFL, but like DeSean, he has freakish speed. I hope he also ends up in a system that will give him opportunities to maximize his big play ability.

Also, I think we need to take Marshawn out of that Rodgers and DeSean group. Great rookie year, but he’s been steadily regressing ever since. Add on his off the field stuff, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s out of the league in a couple of years.
