Read on for the liveblog…
11:59 | Jason Snell: Hi, everyone. This is Jason Snell here in the Bay Area, reporting live from my living room. Ken Crawford is onsite at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. |
11:59 | Jason Snell:
Earlier Ken reported, “Just an FYI, there will be a live-blog today. Come back around 12:15 for the first update. BTW, it’s HOT today in Pasadena! I took pictures around the stadium at 9:30 AM and was sweating like a pig going up and down the steps. It is a beautiful stadium and should remind the Bears a lot of their home field.” |
12:07 | Jason Snell:
Back in a few minutes to start the game. |
12:11 | Ken Crawford: Hi there, I’m in the pressbox everyone. Boy is it hot today. |
12:12 | Jason Snell: My weather station says it’s 77 here in Mill Valley. And kind of humid. My condolences, Ken. |
12:14 | Ken Crawford: Some pre-game info: -Bears are in white tops and yellow bottoms -Full Cal band is here -Stadium is 90% empty right now, mostly because people are trying to avoid the heat I think. -Cal section looks to be 3 sectons wide in Northwest corner. |
12:15 | Jason Snell: Uni Watch: Classic Cal look. |
12:15 | Jason Snell:
They just entered the 4th quarter in Texas-Oklahoma. I assume this means nobody’s gonna actually see the first part of the Cal-UCLA game. |
12:15 | Ken Crawford: Oh, it’s also amateur/high school band day. There are about 20 here. |
12:16 | Ken Crawford: Cal band just took the field. Baton toss watch: not a clean catch but I doubt instant replay will overturn the catch call. |
12:32 | Ken Crawford: UCLA wins the toss and defers, so Cal will receive (going North to South) |
12:34 | Ken Crawford: Vereen and Ross back for the kickoff. |
12:34 | Jason Snell: The game’s not on TV, so we appreciate your details, Ken. |
12:36 | Ken Crawford: Hey, give me a break. Everyone here’s watching the Texas vs. Oklahoma game on TV so I dont’ know how early you guys are getting these details. |
12:36 | Ken Crawford: Oh wait, is it really not yet on TV? |
12:36 | Jason Snell: No, seriously, I’ve got Starkey playing on iTunes right now. |
12:36 | [Comment From Tedfordium ] KC and JS, why no mention of the Pick ‘Em league this week |
12:37 | [Comment From Tedfordium ] which station is that JSnell? |
12:37 | Jason Snell: Go to KGOradio.com and click Listen Live. |
12:38 | Ken Crawford: Sorry about that guys on the Pick’Em. I’ve been REALLY busy and didn’t have Internet access the last two days. Plus I forgot. |
12:38 | Ken Crawford: I did just send out an e-mail. |
12:38 | Jason Snell:
Bears are driving, and across the 50 with a first down. Or so I hear. |
12:39 | Ken Crawford: So far UCLA is working really hard to plug up the middle but the outside has been pretty open. Cal has been doing rollouts to prevent that. |
12:40 | Ken Crawford: And it really payed on that option play. It got everyone sucked in and then UCLA was left out of position. Plus some really good blocking by the WRs. |
12:41 | Ken Crawford: Hey guys. Check ESPN for the game. It might be on one of those channels in the mean time. |
12:41 | Ken Crawford: Or ESPN 360 online? |
12:42 | Ken Crawford: Point being I’m getting a feed here in the pressbox that looks like somebody is showing the game somewhere associated to ESPN. |
12:43 | Ken Crawford: Punt was only to the 11 yard-line. Still struggling with those short kickoffs. |
12:43 | Jason Snell: Pretty sure that’s the internal feed. |
12:44 | Jason Snell:
We should mention Cal scored a touchdown there, apparently. |
12:44 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Go Bears!!!! |
12:44 | [Comment From Tedfordium] on espn360 |
12:44 | [Comment From Davis Bear] ABC says it’s on ESPN Classic |
12:45 | Ken Crawford: Yeah, it was a great TD Jason. |
12:45 | Jason Snell: Nice, I don’t get ESPN Classic. |
12:45 | Ken Crawford: Don’t worry about the punt fumble. Clearly interefered with. |
12:47 | Ken Crawford: Oooo. Best was a half-step from breaking that 2 yard loss for a long run. That was a great move by the UCLA defender who then made a great tackle. |
12:47 | [Comment From Amyable] It’s on ESPNC (Classic) which we don’t get and it’s also playing on ESPN 360 which is how we’re watching it. |
12:47 | Ken Crawford: But then Best botched the toss on the next play. OK Riley, 3rd and 21. Just don’t do anything stupid. |
12:47 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Regional blackout for me on ESPN360 |
12:47 | Jason Snell: I also have no ESPN 360. Lovely. |
12:48 | Ken Crawford: Jason. Try ESPN360.com |
12:48 | Jason Snell: No, I don’t get ESPN 360. |
12:48 | Jason Snell: My Internet provider does not pay ESPN’s ransom. |
12:49 | Ken Crawford: I think online it’s free for everyone, right? (That’s what I hear… ah, didn’t know that was an issue for some ISPs) |
12:49 | Jason Snell: Your ISP has to pay to grant access to ESPN 360. It’s…. lame. |
12:49 | Ken Crawford: And while we’re doing this. Anger shanked another punt. |
12:50 | Jason Snell:
If OU-Texas goes into overtime I’m gonna cry. |
12:51 | Ken Crawford: But the defense is looking really strong, so that’s good. UCLA’s punting game is looking much better and they just pinned us to the 3. That was a nice punt, but it they got a very lucky bounce. |
12:51 | Ken Crawford: NICE! Illegal motion forces them to re-kick. |
12:54 | [Comment From Guest] augh, this sucks. |
12:54 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Just wanted to say that I love the podcasts, very insightful. I also appreciate the off-topic conversations like the Oregon jersey combinations. |
12:54 | Ken Crawford: Riley really held on to the ball too long on that sack. He just needed to let it fly and let Ross make a play on the ball (he was well covered). |
12:54 | Jason Snell: Thank you, Tedfordium. |
12:54 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Looks like Texas held on |
12:54 | [Comment From katster] curse you, Mack Brown, nemesis of Cal football! 😉 |
12:55 | Jason Snell: SWITCH GAMES NOW. |
12:56 | Jason Snell:
Nobody does off-topic podcasting like me. |
12:57 | Jason Snell: Mack Brown’s on TV. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO |
12:57 | [Comment From katster] go away, Colt McCoy! |
12:57 | [Comment From Tedfordium] KC, are we looking confident? Defense aggressive? |
12:57 | [Comment From katster] told you, Mack Brown, Cal nemesis. |
12:57 | Ken Crawford: HUGE FUMBLE! DJ Holt could have had a TD if he was a safety. Guyton forced the fumble. |
12:57 | Jason Snell:
Turnover, ball to Cal. |
12:58 | [Comment From Tedfordium] sweet!! winning the turnover battle |
12:59 | Ken Crawford: Defense is looking fairly normal but the 3-4 is confusing Prince enough and Hagan is a one-man ball-swatting crew right now. And yes, the Bears have looked confident and determined all day. |
12:59 | Ken Crawford: LIke with that AWESOME TD throw and catch. Riley to Jones. |
1:00 | Ken Crawford: These are the type of drive stats I like to hear: 1 play, 43 yards. |
1:02 | Ken Crawford: These kickoffs… ugh. Are they being TAUGHT to pop the ball up like that? At least Demato slowed him up enough to prevent the TD return |
1:03 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Go BEars!!!Riley is capable, but inconsistent |
1:03 | [Comment From Tedfordium] I think that Riley throws the best deep ball we’ve seen in the Tedford era |
1:03 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Great catch by Marvin! Those are usually the type of receptions we’ve dropped the last few years |
1:03 | [Comment From katster] of course, special teams tries to kill us. |
1:04 | Ken Crawford: They’re picking on Josh Hill and while Hill is doing his best, he’s getting just slightly beat. That was a pertty darned good throw though. |
1:05 | Jason Snell: Touchdown UCLA |
1:06 | Ken Crawford: That was not the best run stopping by the Bears. That’s OK. Still up 14-7 with a lot of positives. For the most part I’ve been happy with the defensive effort. Special teams… please, please, PLEASE… let’s not repeat 2005, OK? |
1:10 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Pretty good coverage by Hagan on the long completion, but even greater catch by Embry |
1:12 | Ken Crawford: I really don’t like these bunch formations. I don’t care if they run or pass out of them. It’s just too many defenders too close to the ball. |
1:14 | [Comment From Tedfordium] I like the bunch formation when they’re passing, I think it can be confusing for an undisciplined defense |
1:17 | Ken Crawford: I’d debat that with you Tedfordium if you weren’t kicking everyone’s rears in the Pick’Em. |
1:20 | Ken Crawford: End of the 1st quarter: The Bears have looked pretty darned good. It’s disappointing that one drive went for a TD for UCLA but overall it’s looked good. Riley is 4 of 7 (Prince only 2 of 6) and connected on the long ball. Upcoming is a key 3rd down. |
1:20 | Ken Crawford: Well, 1st down UCLA, but it’s the way you want, on a busted play with a QB scramble. |
1:22 | Jason Snell: This is a weird game. I feel strangely disconnected. |
1:25 | [Comment From katster] Jason: Yeah, same here. Some of it is the late come-in, and some…well, probably don’t want to get hopes up too high. |
1:25 | [Comment From Tedfordium] HAHA, I’d like to see what our average yards per play is in the bunch formation. |
1:26 | Jason Snell: Hey, Jahvid Best! Remember him? |
1:27 | Ken Crawford: That Best rushing play was all about pacing. Cal rushed through the huddle and the snap not letting UCLA get set. |
1:28 | Ken Crawford: See, those bunch plays they don’t… um… nevermind. |
1:29 | Jason Snell: That’s using your Jahvid Best. TOUCHDOWN. |
1:29 | [Comment From Tedfordium] sweet run there, it’s been a month since we’ve seen him get outside like that |
1:29 | [Comment From katster] NICE! GO BEARS! |
1:29 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Did the 2nd down play count as a bunch formation even though the FB motioned to the backfield? |
1:30 | Ken Crawford: OK, whoever wants to criticism the lack of creativity, you’re going to have to justify yourself on that last drive over and over. There were 4 plays there that Cal really opened up the playbook. |
1:30 | Jason Snell: Finally. |
1:30 | Ken Crawford: But you’ve got plenty of room to criticize my grammer… what they heck was that sentence? |
1:31 | Jason Snell: I would never criticize your Grandma, Ken. |
1:31 | [Comment From Tedfordium] beautiful! I thought that was overthrown, but even Riley can’t overthrow Jahvid |
1:32 | Ken Crawford: Man, it really is the baby bears down here in Pasadena. They did the kid growl contest between quarters. They just did the shuffle the football on the big screen with the same sound-track. If I didn’t know any better I’d think I was in Memorial. |
1:32 | [Comment From Tedfordium] What do you guys think about the Washington game tonight? |
1:33 | Jason Snell: Well, just when you think there’s momentum… 21-14 UCLA. |
1:34 | Jason Snell: Tedfordium, I’m going with the home team. |
1:34 | Jason Snell:
But this year in the Pac-10? Anything can happen. |
1:34 | [Comment From Tedfordium] I’m hoping that Nick Holt comes up with some great schemes against Arizona St. I haven’t watched the Devils play this year, but I hear that their defense is solid. Winning on the road is tough, especially for young teams. |
1:34 | Ken Crawford: I just can’t believe my eyes on that one. The Bears had that play so bottled up but somehow he had enough patience to squirt through. |
1:36 | Ken Crawford: Tedfordium, I think ASU is a joke and am pretty sure UW will win that one. Locker is healthy, right? |
1:36 | Jason Snell: I think ASU is a joke, too. But they still might win. |
1:36 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Ezeff got burned there too |
1:38 | [Comment From Tedfordium] I’ve got Washington winning in the pick em, maybe I just thinking winning on the road is difficult because of how we tend to struggle… It’s been cold all week in Seattle, so the heat might bother the UW players. |
1:38 | Ken Crawford: Yup. Definitely when a play like that the safety needs to be a, you know, safety and not let it go for 70 yards. |
1:39 | Jason Snell: Not a good thow by Riley on that one. |
1:40 | Ken Crawford: that was almost a brilliant play. Got to give Riley props. He threw the right ball. No one else was going to catch it and it had a chance to get the 1st down. |
1:41 | Jason Snell: Better punt there by Anger. 70 yards in the air. And coverage on the ground. |
1:41 | Ken Crawford: Isi earned his scholarship on that punt alone. What a great pursuit on a 72 yard punt that well out-kicked the coverage. Boys, (and Katster) Anger is BACK! |
1:42 | Ken Crawford: Here’s a stat no Cal fan wants to hear: The last UCLA running back who ran for 74 yards for a TD? Maurice Jones-Drew ran for 76 in 2003. |
1:43 | Jason Snell: One of his five that day? |
1:43 | [Comment From katster] woohoo! |
1:43 | Ken Crawford: Totally and completely UN CATCH A BULL. |
1:43 | Jason Snell: Boo. They run into each other and it’s pass interference? On a terrible throw? |
1:44 | [Comment From Tedfordium] was that against us? |
1:44 | Jason Snell: Terrible. |
1:46 | Ken Crawford: And now time to sell all of you more beer and shampoo because UCLA was confused. |
1:49 | Jason Snell:
Has Syd’Quan ever actually fielded a punt? Or does he just fair catch or wave his arms? |
1:49 | [Comment From rollonubears] outside of the 20, take the fair catch. inside the 5, let it go. why can’t we get that right? |
1:50 | Jason Snell: Touchdown Bears! Finally, Jahvid Best breaks free. |
1:51 | Jason Snell:
No, there was no illegal block on that play. LET US NEVER SPEAK OF IT. |
1:51 | [Comment From katster] 93 yards for BEST! |
1:51 | [Comment From rollonubears] WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! |
1:51 | Ken Crawford: Jahvid’s 9 yards just got a pretty big bump. And guess who made that block 40 yards down field? Mr. Riley. |
1:51 | Jason Snell: And it’s 28-14 Cal. Um, this was not the score I picked. |
1:52 | Ken Crawford: I picked 27-17 Bears, so I’m kinda hoping the defenses take over now. |
1:54 | Ken Crawford: That was NOT the defenses taking over. |
1:56 | Jason Snell: What is it about Cal giving up a load right after scoring? |
1:56 | [Comment From katster] me neither, but if we hold on, i’ll take it. |
1:56 | [Comment From Tedfordium] i had a low scoring 23-20 |
1:56 | [Comment From Tedfordium] and then ucla comes right back again….. |
1:57 | Ken Crawford: OK, no more scoring now for PIck’Em purposes. 28-17 is close enough to 27-17 for my purposes. |
1:59 | [Comment From rollonubears] a little luck, but a decent stop there to hold ’em to 3. |
1:59 | [Comment From katster] heh, I had 27-24. |
2:00 | Ken Crawford: Katster, we’re all hoping your Pick’Em wish doesn’t get granted. |
2:00 | Ken Crawford: I don’t have enough finger nails for that. |
2:00 | [Comment From Tedfordium] I’m content with being dead last in the pick em this week if we win by 21+ |
2:01 | Jason Snell: Nice grab by Vereen there. |
2:01 | Jason Snell: Riley showing some of his mobility today. |
2:04 | [Comment From rollonubears] decent game by the o-line today, too |
2:04 | [Comment From rollonubears] so far, this is everything i’ve ever asked for. more reliance on the run. allowing riley to run. calling more play action and roll-outs. so far, pretty proud of the bears, and happy with tedford. |
2:05 | Jason Snell: I know, the gameplan is a whole lot better. Plus, the opponent is a whole lot less good. |
2:05 | Jason Snell: Touchdown, Mr. Jones. |
2:05 | [Comment From katster] nice throw, KEVIN. and an even better catch by Jones! |
2:05 | [Comment From rollonubears] we have a #1 receiver! |
2:06 | Jason Snell: Yes, we do. |
2:06 | Ken Crawford: WOW! Just throw it up to Mr. Jones (didn’t some Cal fan write a song about him?) and let him go up and grab it. |
2:07 | [Comment From Tedfordium] best of all they’re making the tough plays, ucla drops a TD, Jones catches a TD in traffic, no holding on the TD run |
2:07 | [Comment From katster] yeah, some dude by the name of Duritz or something. %) |
2:07 | Ken Crawford: OK Happy… er Bears… Nice and easy. No scoring for the Baby Bears in 46 seconds. |
2:08 | Jason Snell: 35-17 at halftime? I predicted Cal would score 17 total. Sigh. In a good way. |
2:09 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Riley is playing phenomenal |
2:09 | [Comment From rollonubears] GEORGIO!! |
2:09 | Jason Snell: Can not kick. |
2:12 | [Comment From rollonubears] true, but he’s making the most of his shot. d’amato’s been pretty bad all year…prevent D costs us 3. |
2:13 | Jason Snell: And now, the tatical timeouts before the FG try for UCLA. |
2:13 | Ken Crawford: This is too prevent. Funny joke from the press-room: Guy 1: Why didn’t they call a timeout? I would have called a timeout with 9 seconds and had one shot in the endzone. Guy 2: I would have called a timeout with 12 seconds and kicked the field goal. |
2:14 | Jason Snell: FG good. And it’s Cal 35, UCLA 20 at the half. |
2:14 | Ken Crawford: Just like rollon said: Prevent costs 3 points. |
2:19 | [Comment From Tedfordium] are you guys rooting for USC or ND? |
2:19 | Jason Snell: I’m rooting for a 2-0 final score where everyone ends up injured and the safety is scored on the final play. One day, one day… |
2:22 | Ken Crawford: Catholic Ken is rooting for ND but Pac-10 Ken is rooting for USC. Right now Pac-10 Ken is winning more hearts and minds in my head. |
2:23 | Ken Crawford: Yes, there are multiple of them up there. |
2:29 | [Comment From Tedfordium] If you had to pick a player of the game after the first half would bit be Jahvid or Riley? |
2:32 | Ken Crawford: Riley for sure. If nothing else, that Jahvid TD run isn’t a TD without Riley’s block. Add in that Best has mostly been bottled up (minus the one play) and that Riley’s throwing is what is loosening the running game and I go with Riley. But I might just pick Jones if I was given him as a choice. |
2:32 | Jason Snell: I’ll say Best. Why not. |
2:32 | Jason Snell: Just to be different. |
2:32 | Jason Snell: Ken’s also seen a quarter more of the game than me. |
2:36 | Ken Crawford: Now that was an acceptable kick with reasonably good coverage. |
2:37 | [Comment From rollonubears] best has this idea that on every run, he has to “wait for the hole to develop.” usually a good strategy, but when you need a couple yards, and you’ve got the outside, just bang for a couple or go for the corner. we need a stop to open this half. keep the momentum. go bears! |
2:37 | Jason Snell: Wow, that was terrible coverage. I thought DBs were supposed to cover receivers, not let them catch the ball and then tackle them |
2:38 | Ken Crawford: That was tougher than it looked Jason. He threw to his back shoulder long before the WR stopped his route and came back for it. It probably looked worse on TV than it was. |
2:38 | Jason Snell: Nice stop there by Bishop |
2:39 | Jason Snell: Good defense in the endzone on the deep chuck ‘n duck |
2:39 | Jason Snell: Hagan, nice attempt at the pick there. |
2:40 | Ken Crawford: Good to see UCLA using timeouts early. As for Hagan, you’d like to see him catch that ball even though it’s unlikely he gets his feet in bounds. Still good defense. |
2:43 | Jason Snell: Another field goal for the Bruins. |
2:43 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Lots of man coverage in this game, I like what I see. We’re playing aggressive and attacking the young QB. If they’re going to beat us he will have to do it over the top |
2:43 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Great play on that third down. What did you guys think of Neweisel not going for it on 4th and inches? |
2:43 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Man that UCLA kicker is good |
2:43 | Ken Crawford: One of two things is true: Either Prince is only being given one throwing options on a lot of plays or he’s locking on a primary receiver. Luckily that’s working out well for the Bears, sans the field goal. |
2:43 | Jason Snell: I think taking the points is probably not a bad idea. |
2:44 | Ken Crawford: BTW, Syd is injured and looks to be out for the game. |
2:44 | [Comment From rollonubears] hagan’s got some seriously suspect hands. probably why he’s on defense. dropped about 10 easy picks last year. could have led the ncaa. dropped off this year, completely, but looks like he’s coming back a bit today. |
2:46 | [Comment From Tedfordium] No, the 4th and inches in the first half when he punted from the 48 |
2:47 | Jason Snell: Oh, I don’t know if I have an opinion on that one. |
2:47 | Jason Snell: I like it when people go for it, in general. Statistics will show that you’re better off going for it. |
2:50 | Jason Snell: So, um, Vereen’s not so shabby, is he? |
2:50 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Where is Jahvid? |
2:51 | Ken Crawford: For what it’s worth. The rumor in the pressbox is that Jahvid is hurt. We can’t find him anywhere on the field. No official announcement. Wait, he just came running on the field… and into the huddle! |
2:51 | Ken Crawford: He was apparently in the training room. |
2:53 | Jason Snell: Wow, that was a bad pass, riley. |
2:53 | Jason Snell: FG! |
2:54 | Ken Crawford: Back to a 3 score lead. That pressure on Riley on 3rd down really hurt. It affected his throw to Isi and he didn’t have time to find a wide open Holley in the endzone. |
2:57 | [Comment From Tedfordium] THE BEST IS ON THE FIELD! |
2:57 | Ken Crawford: I think Tavecchio just won his kicking job back. That’s two in a row inside the 5. |
2:57 | Jason Snell: It’s nice that Jahvid reappeared. |
2:59 | Jason Snell:
That was just a little bit of pass interference. |
3:00 | Ken Crawford: Now that was just stupidity. There was no reason for that. The ball was WAY off the mark. |
3:02 | Jason Snell: Nice drive here by UCLA, and that was a good QB scramble. |
3:05 | Ken Crawford: The dual of the 2nd half field goal kickers continues. Not that I mind with 18 minutes left to play. |
3:09 | Jason Snell: So, summing up where we are right now: I think we’ve established that UCLA is not nearly as good as USC or Oregon. And Cal is not as bad as they looked the last two games. |
3:10 | Ken Crawford: Cal needs to open it back up again. UCLA is collapsing on Best on every play. We almost should be using Vereen when we want to dominate on the ground. Not because he’s better. But because he doesn’t draw so many defenders. |
3:12 | [Comment From rollonubears] best is clearly not 100% |
3:12 | Jason Snell: Another deep ball way overthrown. |
3:14 | Jason Snell: Not Riley’s best series there. |
3:14 | Ken Crawford: That ball was in the air for a really, really, really long time. |
3:14 | Ken Crawford: (the throw, not the punt) |
3:17 | Ken Crawford: For those of you who don’t remember. Beginning of the 4th quarter score for this same game in 2005: Bears 37, UCLA 28.
EMFMV: We scare because we care. |
3:18 | [Comment From katster] *shakes a fist at Ken* |
3:22 | Jason Snell: I feel The Fear too, but at least Maurice Jones is not on the field. |
3:22 | Jason Snell: Or Maurice Drew. |
3:22 | Jason Snell: Or Drew Jones. |
3:22 | [Comment From rollonubears] big penalties hurt worse in the 4th qtr |
3:22 | Ken Crawford: Yeah, all 3 of those guys were killer in 2005, Jason. |
3:23 | Jason Snell: Actually, Drew Jones wasn’t very good. |
3:24 | Ken Crawford: Well that’s what his name looked like in the rear-view mirror |
3:25 | Ken Crawford: Attendance 67,317 |
3:25 | Ken Crawford: Seats about 97k total, I think. |
3:25 | Ken Crawford: So 2/3rds full or so. |
3:26 | [Comment From rollonubears] he was the one looking in the rear view mirror that year |
3:27 | Jason Snell: Dumb penalty on UCLA there. Face mask. |
3:27 | [Comment From Tedfordium] Not a bad attendance for two teams that are a combined 0-4 in their last two games |
3:28 | Ken Crawford: What a gift. A facemask long after the play was effectively over. Make it count Bears! |
3:29 | Jason Snell: Roll on you Facemask Penalties. |
3:30 | Jason Snell:
So do we think 38 is going to be enough? |
3:31 | [Comment From rollonubears] 3rd and long, you gotta be throwing beyond the yellow line. best is adding nothing here. they made adjustments at half. we didn’t. bears look sloppy this half, and uninspired. |
3:32 | Ken Crawford: Ah come on Rollon. It’s not that bad. They’ve only outscored us 6-3 in this half. Jason, yes, I think 38 is enough, but I’d sure like one more TD so that I KNOW it’s enough. |
3:34 | [Comment From rollonubears] i think we need to put more points on the board. i think the bears are asking the same question about 38 being enough, instead of going at it with a killer instinct. that’s tedford rubbing off on the team. |
3:34 | Jason Snell: SQUAD HIT |
3:34 | Jason Snell: Wow, that was… a terrible pass to nobody. |
3:36 | [Comment From rollonubears] NICE!!!! Go Bears! Let me keep my fingernails for another week. |
3:36 | [Comment From rollonubears] knock on wood…we’ve done a pretty good job protecting the ball this game. |
3:39 | Ken Crawford: OK, I”m on board on the Best is hurting train. That screen should have gone for a handful of yards, minus the penalty. |
3:39 | Jason Snell: Nice, a halfhearted illegal block in the back that did nothing but costs 10 yards. |
3:39 | Jason Snell: This is an uninspiring half of football. |
3:39 | [Comment From OregonBearFan] One TD Bears….One time |
3:41 | Ken Crawford: Riley’s back to throwing the ball high again. |
3:42 | [Comment From rollonubears] playing not to lose…again. hope it works. |
3:43 | Ken Crawford: Boy, Cal may not be playing the best half, but UCLA isn’t doing themselves any favors. Delay of game? Nice sense of urgency Bruins. |
3:44 | Jason Snell: Speaking of a lack of urgency.. an awfully meek conversion of 3rd and 7 allowed by the defense. |
3:45 | Jason Snell: This gets really unpleasant if they score here. |
3:46 | Jason Snell: Intercepted! |
3:46 | Jason Snell: And he’s gone! |
3:46 | Ken Crawford: AND THAT’S THE BALL GAME! |
3:46 | Jason Snell: And Cal with the interception-touchdown this time to end it in the Rose Bowl. |
3:46 | [Comment From katster] jason: will an interception work? |
3:47 | Ken Crawford: Kendricks deserves that. He’s been playing really hard all season and doing great for a young guy. |
3:47 | Jason Snell: Wow, that was really a terrible read by the QB. |
3:47 | Ken Crawford: OK guys. Off to the field for the interviews. Thanks Jason for setting up this CoverItLive. Much nicer than the manual thing we’ve done in the past. |
3:48 | Jason Snell: I think 45 will win this one. |
3:48 | [Comment From rollonubears] i guess he wasn’t talking smack!! |
3:48 | [Comment From katster] wasn’t it Kendricks who said basically that we’re going to win because we had to? |
3:50 | Jason Snell: Good luck Ken |
3:53 | Jason Snell:
Well, I feel better. |
3:56 | [Comment From katster] nice to get the LA monkey off our backs? |
3:56 | Jason Snell: Tedford, win in L.A.? |
3:57 | Jason Snell: “They already played USC, they already played Oregon.” Yes. “Played.” Attended. |
3:58 | Jason Snell:
Well, great win for the Bears. |
3:58 | Jason Snell: I would never have predicted that this one would be this lopsided. |
3:58 | [Comment From Guest] yes! pretty fairly officiated game today, too. refreshing to see. bears had a few really dumb penalties, though. leaving best in there right now is a pretty poor decision by tedhead, if he’s not 100%. |
3:58 | [Comment From katster] okay, so it took eight tries, but… |
3:59 | Jason Snell: Thanks everyone. |
3:59 | [Comment From katster] so now we have a very wet Tedford. It’s all good. |

Jason the start of the game was on ESPN Classic and then switched over to ABC after the Texs-OU game was over. If you live in Mill Valley you should beable to afford the full ESPN package!

@bar20: I don’t want to waste $12 a month on the DirecTV sports package, which is a gigantic waste of money since it’s largely junk (regional sports networks) and I watch enough TV. I used to get Classic, but they moved it to that tier.
(And unless you know how big my paycheck is, I don’t think you get to judge what I should be spending my money on.)
