A good night sleep
(Written by kencraw)
After I finished up my post-game articles, I went to the local brewery, had a good beer, went back to the hotel and after checking my e-mail and the blog, went to sleep.
And a good night of sleep it was.
There was no tearing out my hair in the middle of the night, no restless tossing and turning, just good, solid, high quality sleep.
And the world is not such a bad place today.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s still a lot to worry about on this team, but it’s a lot easier to have perspective after a good nights sleep.

Ken:
Facts:
1 — Oregon played almost a perfect game.
2 — Minnesota beat Northwestern on the road.
3 — USC looked weak in beating WSU.
Analysis:
Last week, Cal paid more attention to its #6 ranking than preparing for a potentially strong Oregon team. They will not suffer from that problem this week.
Cal will be motivated to show their fans, the press and the football world they are not as bad as they played yesterday. Cal has a great chance to beat USC.
It’s hard to win on the road, especially in the Pac 10. If you don’t believe me, ask Pete Carroll.
Cal beat a solid (but not great) Minnesota team in their new stadium in Minneapolis. This shows Cal can win on the road.
We all know Cal plays great in Strawberry Canyon. The next game is home and that’s all that matters right now.
Those who are looking down the schedule need to pay attention to the cliche – play one game at a time.
Because they are so young, college football players are very unpredictable. There is a large standard deviation is their output throughout the season. After Cal’s only score, they kicked the ensuing kickoff into the end zone. Also, reliable punter Anger shanked a punt.
Just because they looked awful in Eugene, doesn’t mean they can’t beat USC or any other team on their schedule.

There’s still a little part of me that’s raw this morning, about as raw as I felt when I was just learning the ropes of being a Cal fan in 1996. (Yeah, I know, that’s only thirteen years ago, and there’s tons of Old Blues who have had it worse.)
However, I think we can rebound. USC isn’t quite the worldbeater they’ve been in previous seasons, and if we can hand them a loss, we can then hope they take out Oregon.
It’s a little worse than last year, but I knew this game was going to be tough. I didn’t expect to get whooped this bad, but…
I think we’ll end up pretty good.

This is when I hate being a Cal fan. Tedford blew this one.

I did not get a wink of sleep last night. But I woke up thinking today may get a little better until I watched Brett Favre beat my Niners on pretty much the last play of the game.
Hands down the worst weekend of my sports life.

Rick, I completely agree with everything you’ve said. It’s all about the team psyche at this point. The good news is they said all the right things in their post game interviews. As long as they really believe it, there’s reason to be very hopeful.
