Spring Practice #4 Podcast

This is the 4th and final installment in the Spring Practice Podcast series from the final practice on April 26th.

I made one error in the podcast. I referred to a Michael Geurts. His first name is actually Peter.

The podcast ends with audio from interviews with Tedford and Nyan Boateng. Here’s a summary of their quotes:

  1. Tedford on what he learned from Spring Practice
  2. Tedford on best performances in practice
  3. Tedford on receiver improvements
  4. Tedford on quarterback evaluations
  5. Tedford on when to name starting QB
  6. Tedford on size at receiver
  7. Tedford on NFL draft (sorry for background noise that starts here)
  8. Tedford on Jahvid Best’s status
  9. Nyan Boateng on fan interest
  10. Nyan Boateng on how spring went
  11. Nyan Boateng on Tedford compliments
  12. Nyan Boateng on hardest aspects of Spring Practice
  13. Nyan Boateng on easiest aspects (interview got interrupted, cut in audio)
  14. Nyan Boateng on being a leader
  15. Nyan Boateng on who team leaders are

Spring Practice #3 Podcast

I attended Spring Practice on Wednesday April 16th. I just now got around to editing together my On The Road Home Podcast, but it was recorded on the car ride home. I’ve also got audio from post-practice interviews with Tedford and Shane Vereen is who was out of the redshirt for the first time on Wednesday.

As for errors in the podcast, I was mostly error free this time. There were a couple moments when I said 4-3 for the defensive formation when I meant 3-4 (but not the other way around). It didn’t affect the overall commentary’s accuracy however.

Here is a list of the audio quote topics:

  1. Tedford on practice intensity
  2. Tedford on Vereen being back
  3. Tedford on Vereen’s improvements
  4. Tedford on DeBoskie coming early
  5. Tedford on protection breakdowns
  6. Tedford on challenge of losing seniors
  7. Tedford on secondary play
  8. Vereen on injury
  9. Vereen on hardest part of coming back
  10. Vereen on things to learn
  11. Vereen on strongest part of game
  12. Vereen on changes from last year
  13. Vereen on depth chart
  14. Vereen on frustration of injury
  15. Vereen on going all out

Spring Practice #2 Podcast

I attended the open to the public Spring Practice on April 12th at noon. Here is the “On The Road Home” podcast from that event.

Spring Practice #1 Podcast

I attended Spring Practice on 4/9. (As a reminder to all, Spring Practice is closed to the public (except for the open practice on Saturday 4/12) and is only available to invited media/guests.) Here is my “On The Road Home” podcast for that event.

I made one notable error in the podcast: Boskovich is a offensive lineman, the starting left guard specifically, not a defensive end. That’s the penalty for doing these podcasts from memory in the car as opposed to from prepared text/notes at home.

Note that the podcast includes interview audio from Tedford and redshirt Freshman QB Brock Mansion. Here is a list of their quote topics:

  1. Tedford on Improvements on Defense
  2. Tedford on Longshore’s Injury
  3. Tedford on injuries (Mohommad, Vareen, Follett, DJ Holt)
  4. Tedford on TE Tad Smith
  5. Tedford on Brock Manson
  6. Mansion on taking snaps
  7. Mansion on difficult aspects
  8. Mansion on defensive pressure
  9. Mansion on easiest aspects
  10. Mansion on keeping sharp
  11. Mansion on 2008 playing time
  12. Mansion on sping practice changes
  13. Mansion on scout team
  14. Mansion on command of playbook

Armed Forces Bowl Podcast

My last podcast of the 2007 football season is now posted on the podcast page here.

I’d really like to hear some feedback from those who listened to it throughout the season to let me know what I can improve for next season (or whether it just isn’t worth doing). Along those lines, how much more popular would it be if I was to include player and coaching audio from weekly press-conferences and post-game interviews and the such. I noticed that while I usually get 20-30 listeners per podcast, my Oregon podcast where I had player quotes got over 100 listens. Is that a necessary piece to make this podcast worth while?

Please let me know what you think.

Big Game Podcast

OK, I know no one cares at this point, but… well… tough, you’re going to listen to it anyway! In all seriousness, I did record it on the way home from the game like I have all the others so the information in it is fresh despite it’s stale posting. You can tell from the stupid comments like my confidence that ASU would get a BCS bowl game.

Give it a listen, or don’t, but don’t come crying to me if you missed all of the critically important information in it.

You can find it over on the podcast page.

Washington Podcast

The Washington game podcast is now posted. You can listen to it over on the podcast page.

USC Podcast

My USC Podcast which was recorded on the way home from the rain soaked game is finally posted.

You’ll notice that the background noise is much, much, much better than previous games that I recorded in the car on the way home. This is due to two improvements. #1: I bought a noise canceling headset/microphone to record the podcasts. #2: I’m using noise filtering software to further reduce the background noise. While the noise canceling headset/microphone was probably sufficient and made a HUGE difference on its own, it also reduced the background noise level to a degree that software filtering would actually work without introducing a bunch of noise artifacts. The combination of the two nearly entirely eliminated the background noise and I’m very happy with the result. I intend at some point to make a post about the research that went into the solution with audio samples of each stage.

In any case, the podcast is now available to be listened to on the podcast page.

WSU Podcast

The podcast is finally posted. I was unable to post it over the weekend because I left the docking cable for my audio recorder in the office. Then yesterday was one of those days at work where I had so little time it was all I could do just to do make sure I brought the cable home… which I forgot. That made today the first day where I could upload it. Sorry about the delay.

Click on the link on the titlebar to go listen to it.

In other administrative news, the plan is to re-watch the game and do my full post-game analysis tonight.

ASU Podcast

The ASU podcast is posted on the podcast page. Go over and hear me in my distressed state on Saturday night.

UCLA Podcast

The UCLA podcast is up on the podcast page… go have a listen and hear in my voice just how disgusted I was at 4:30 PM yesterday. 🙁

OSU Podcast

Check over on the podcast page for my latest podcast.

Oregon Podcast

Sorry for the delay. Despite recording it from outside my hotel room on Saturday night, today was the first opportunity I had to take the audio and the interviews to make a single podcast file. I also apologize for how heavy my breathing is in the podcast. I didn’t have my good microphone with me and I was outside in the drizzle and cold walking down the street at 12:30 in the middle of the night (my hotel mates wouldn’t have appreciated me recording it from the room and demanding silence from them). It made it so that I was both breathing more heavily than usual and made it so the recorder was picking up more of that breathing. Perhaps I was still also out of breath from such a big win too. 🙂

In any case, you can find it over on the podcast page and as promised it has interview clips from post game interviews, including Tedford, Longshore, Forsett, Hawkins and Williams.

Arizona Podcast

I’ve posted my Arizona game podcast. You can hear it over on the podcast page.

Since I do these podcast while driving home from the game I’m doing them from memory using my feeble memory skills. In addition to this meaning that I may not cover all of the topics I’m intersted in, it also means I’m liable to say some things that are just plain false. Also, sometime I make errors because I haven’t had a chance to read any of the post game articles or commentary and I don’t listen to the radio during the game. They may illuminate something that I didn’t catch in the stands. This week, I caught two errors during editing:

  • This is Jordan’s 4th year as a starter, not his third.
  • It turns out Forsett did have a minor injury that was why Montgomery was playing in the 3rd quarter. Of course the fumble put the end to that

I’m sure there were other minor ones but those were the glaring errors.

Finally, I know about 20-30 people are downloading the podcast each week, which is great, but I haven’t gotten significant feedback from those who have listened to my podcasts. I always want to improve and would love to hear everyones comments. For example, I added an audio intro a little while back, what do peopl think of it? This week’s podcast is a lot longer than the previous ones… is that good or bad? Is the large amount of background car noise distracting? Consider the comment section for this post the best place to answer those questions and provide feedback.

Louisiana Tech Podcast

My comments on the Louisiana Tech. game can be found on the podcast page.

Most posts with my thoughts on the game to follow. A quick one though: I knew there was going to be some bozo who’d answer “Bad as the Furd” to this week’s poll question. I suspect it was either a tree-sitter sympathizer (Oooo… you really got us with that one!) or my brother trying to get under my skin (see comment to tree-sitter).

Colorado State Podcast

I bit the bullet this week and spent the time to add some intro audio to the podcast (feedback is welcome) since I was already so late as to be nearly worthless. In any case, it’s posted for your viewing pleasure on the podcast tab.

Tennessee Podcast

Checkout the podcast section with my thoughts on the Tennessee game.

For those who don’t like the podcast format, don’t worry, there will be plenty of blogging too.
