About Us
Ken Crawford
Ken is a lifelong Cal Bears fan. He inherited his Cal credentials from his father, Alumni of the College of Engineering, 1972. Ken is himself an engineer working for Hewlett Packard, although without the impressive college credentials of his father. His father imparted his love for the Bears by taking Ken to Lair of the Bear, Cal’s alumni summer family camp, for each of the first 21 years of his life. Between the indoctrination received at the Lair and living in Oakland, Ken’s love for the Bears would transcend his own college loyalties.
Ken has been a season ticket holder since he graduated from college in 1999. He proved his mettle by sitting through three of the worst years of Cal football, the end of the Holmoe era. Starting in 2003 Ken started blogging, mostly about his Catholic faith but occasionally about the Bears. Starting in 2004 the emphasis of his blogging moved from Catholic issues to the Bears. In 2006, he was asked by Rival’s Cal Bear correspondant to start writing for Rivals. He was their lead football writer for the 2nd half of the 2006 season.
Ken lives in the Sacramento area with his wife and three boys (one is not yet born, although he already has a season ticket assigned to him). His sons have not missed a Big Game in their life and Ken intends to keep it that way despite Stanford shrinking its stadium.
Jason Snell
Jason has been going to Cal football games since he was a child, and still retains his family’s season tickets that predate his birth. He blogged about Cal from 2003 to 2007 at the Sturdy Golden Blog. He’s a Cal season ticket holder (section EE), and previous to 2010 he sat in section FF in the same seats that his parents had growing up. His father started buying Cal season tickets in the mid-’60s, and when Jason came along in 1970 his dad brought him up right.
Jason has a bachelor’s degree in communication from UC San Diego (no football team, no worries) and a master’s in journalism from Cal. He has been a professional writer and editor for a national technology magazine and web site since 1994.
Jason lives in Marin County with his wife (a fellow UCSD grad) and two young children. Yes, they go to Lair of the Bear every year (week four, Camp Blue). He and Ken probably wouldn’t agree on much when it comes to politics and religion, but that’s okay — they agree on the one thing that matters here, and that’s Cal football.
